recently found a folder of questionable graphics (seperate from what we shared) on my boyfriends computer. the creation date was 2002, but he built the computer in 2004. other than copying and pasting this folder from a usb key (or would that even keep the original date?), how would a folder have an earlier creation date than the computer it's on? how common are date discrepancies?

sincerest apologies for social crap in a tech forum, but he's the only 'computer person' i would be able to ask in person, and his response would be obviously biased....

Hmm that's an alright company, and should've been fine, unless you can buy second hand parts from it..

I'm going to try to find out if you can change a folder's creation date manually.

O.k this is waht I found, it seems it is possible to modify a folder's creation date:

The only time I've seen any date modified on a folder is the "Modified last" field, NEVER the "Creation Date" field. Unless you were to re-create the document, but that would have it go forward, not back, so that's got me stumped.

However, I have to say this:
