Fishermen in Córdoba, Argentina caught a three-eyed wolf fish in a reservoir fed by a local nuclear power plant, which will surely hinder the plant's owner's attempt to run for local office.

The fishermen say their discovery, which actually bears no resemblance to Blinky the three-eyed fish from The Simpsons, has begun to worry local residents who live near the reactor.

This is evolution. What are they afraid of?

This could be evolution caused by unnatural means (such as pollution) that may have undesirable side effects. Evolution basically works on the idea that one who has a certain trait has a greater chance to survive. Those without this trait die, making the trait more dominant. This is just a simple mutation, evolution is more the idea of the long term success of mutation.

If this mutation was caused by the DNA of the fish being damaged from the pollution, then there is no telling what other bizarre things could happen. If this is predicted to evolve in a way that does not help humans, then there is something to worry about. For example, if this fish evolves to have three eyes as a consequence of the pollution, it may also evolve to be inedible for the same reasons.

It's irresponsible for the nuclear power plant owners to get rid of their waste unofficially, IF it's actually the toxic waste that made them mutate this way. If not, I'd be interested in what could have caused this mutation, since evolution doesn't occur in such a small timeframe.

Evolution shouldn't be this drastic so quickly. Its more like a forced mutation.

Read my post, if you have not already. This is not evolution, but a mutation. Such things occur in humans all the time, we call them "birth defects" generally. They seem to have only caught one of these fish.

I think the most hilarious thing is that this actually quite closely mirrors the Simpsons episode, "Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish". Mr Burns tries to run for governor but the finding of a three eyed fish in the power plant lake foils it.

You just couldn't make it up :p

If I'm not mistaken, "birth defects" are not equal to mutations.
Mutation = Change within a cell.
Defect = malfunction of a cell. Can be caused through mutation, but not nessessarily.

I'm no biologist and I'm not good at it either, so correct me if I'm wrong.

I never suggested it to be evolution in the first place. I just stated, that evolution doesn't occur in such a small timeframe.
So, I don't really get what you want to tell me with your post?

PS: read my post again, if you havn't already

Are all of the eyes functional on the wolf fish? There are no other information about the fish in the article.

If we really want to know if it's mutation, let's wait for a while. If there are more, there's a higher chance it's a forced mutation :p

It may be a natural mutation like the one about "one eyed shark" found recently?!

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
