Who all likes the new terraining?

I think its amazing, the fact that there isn't a perma snap on grid, a variety more of tools, and perfect tile transition, is just awesome for terraining.

like anyone is not going to say no to this. WC3 had much better terraining, although I prefer SC1 because of the user-friendlyness

Secret: all of the pro map makers use iTunes for map making!

I LOVE it! <3

Seriously, it's like a supercar compared to the flinstone's car of the WorldEditor .

They probably just whine about it because it's new and they're not used it.

This is true, as most people hate learning, they reject things they are not used to. I for one, love the terrain editor.

2 Levels of Cliffs MAX!
Brushes (Always liked tiles). (Doesn't mean I don't like Photoshop :p)
However, I got to say it's more advanced and more time consuming to make a checkerboard like grid. No snap to grid brushing.

Me no likey.

Don't you hold down Control for that? I think so at least. I know that holding Control while placing a unit forces to grid placement, but I don't know about terrain...

I thought this poll was about the default terrain editor.

I mean, I could import my own textures, own user interface, own modules and functions. It wouldn't be the same terrain editor anymore, hm?

well was it possible with the world editor? If so then theyre at least even. But being able to import texture is a pro

I thought Ctrl+G toggled snap to grid placement, but it only works for units, regions, points, and etc. Terrain doesn't work with Ctrl+G.

Sorry, but I'm going to strongly disagree. Terraining wise Wc3 is inferior.

There was no transition among tiles in wc3, with the occasional tile that might blend sometimes(because of this terraining can be very annoying and can make things look ugly), and there was always a snap on type grid. And because of the lack of transition, if you ever wanted to use the horrible cliffs in wc3, you would have to find one that matches certain tiles you have. Thats not the case in Sc2

raising, lowering, all those tools are all way more advanced then wc3s, though the ripple is kinda horrible, it doesn't do much but do a minor mass raise in random spots where you use the brush. In wc3, it was good for making mountains.

Not only this, theres lot more flexibility, including with free roam type deal with tiles, and the different kinds of brushes.

The only 3 negatives I can see people ever dislike about it is

A. The tile types, they expect lots of vegetation type tiles, and various winter tiles (Btw each set is from a different planet not one.. soo...)

B. Snap on grid is gone, which can make things a tad difficult for some things, but its easily to get by with, it just takes getting used too.

C. The ripple sucks

The Noise tool? Just increase the falloff and lower the amplitude...

I love the terrain editor. Feels a little bit like photoshop ... ^^

The only things is really dislike:

- Why the hell can't I simply select ground tiles from all tilesets? >_>
C'mon blizz, why adding this stupid limitation AGAIN?

- The number of good environmental doodads is extremely limited. Simply no good stone or rock models ... comic like trees, etc. ... The community has a lot of models to create before SC2 terrain will look natural like that

- Why can't I set the water height for each water patch manually? Instead, they are all linked together, nullifying the advantage of having the patch system ...

What i meant was that i didnt even considered the fact than anyone will ever prefer WE for GE so i thought your thread was some kind of joke ^^.

btw, does anyone know how to use water?

You draw the water, then you change the height (edit water). Then you mess with the terrain to hide the ugly square implementation.

More venting, since I need to keep on-topic:
I dislike the new terrain editor simply because it feels incomplete to me. (but Ancanus... it's a beta...) I can't make pretty grass, all my trees are horrible. This 'generate foliage' marketing won't do. (Wow, import your own textures and models...) I can't do my ugly cliff's more than 2 levels. This pesky water mechanism... and what on earth are these road and terrain objects features appealing to?

I'll trade all the texture blendings (read: the selling point) back for my cliff's.

Does not justify ~8 years and 60$. I won't settle my mind until someone replies with a zealot post that makes me feel bad.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
