COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (CBS Charlotte) – A South Carolina school bus driver has been accused of assaulting a 15-year-old boy for allegedly using the N-word.

Terris Devon Richard, 35, was arrested and charged with simple assault and battery on Oct. 27. Witnesses allege that Richard slammed the student’s head into a window on the bus, issued death threats to the student and his family, and vowed to “drag the victim into the school by his neck until he breaks his wind pipe” after the student used the N-word.

When Colleton County authorities responded to the incident, they saw the student — who is white – crying, found red marks around his neck, and his shirt stretched out, according to police reports. As a result of the incident, Richard, who is black, was released from his bus driver position with the district.

I can imagine being a Bus Driver is a very, very stressfull Job.

On one hand, calling a stranger "N*gger" is a tease with a heavy burden on it.
I could imagine the Bus Driver's rage. But that doesn't mean that he can threaten and assult.

I for one do not think that "n*gger" is a bad word itself, I mean I use it myself if there is a crowd and I want to point out a funny dressed person or something like that. I feel like saying "look at the black man" would be incorrect if he was brown and to say "look at the brown man" would just be downright insulting, African would also be wrong to say since they do not come from there.
I can see why a n*gger would be offended because of the slavery and all but for crying out loud as long as the word itself is not used in a fashion that makes it sound like an insult it is not a bad word in my eyes, I even have some n*gger friends who share my point of view.

The bus driver committed a crime, nothing justifies beating up a boy for something he said.

No! the bus driver, after all, attack the kid! And seriously, death threats eh?

So no sympathy for the bus driver!

Idk about the death threats, but calling someone a n*gger is extremely offensive. If you do that, you should be ashamed. As I said before, the boy got what he deserved.

FireCat, I thought I was going to agree with you, but then it turns out you meant the bus driver! Absurd, ha. The boy got what he deserved.

I don't care about the word, and I use it myself too quite often as this culture uses it a lot anyway, but you don't have to be stupid about it. Like if you're going to insult someone who can threaten you, don't do it in their face...

Although the student was a complete idiot for saying that, the bus driver also went to far.

The kid will be alright. The guy needs a less stressful job anyways. It's not acceptable to call someone the N word under most circumstances. That's a social thing, and you can logic about it all day but it still remains true that it is offensive. Weather or not you believe it to be so, doesn't change the hearts and minds of others.

I'm actually quite annoyed by your post here on the news thread and the way you went about it. Calling someone "African American" is socially acceptable. Calling someone "Black" is usually acceptable as long as your intentions are good in nature. Calling someone ";" however, is usually not acceptable behavior.

You are aware that the word was made for one purpose only? That was to degrade black men and call them slaves. It is not appropriate for anyone at all to ever use the word, because it had no other meaning that for racism. I seriously hope you're trolling.

To be honest, we should try to convert that n-word from being racist to being a word which is socially acceptable.
After all, it is only a word, amirite?

The word stems from the Spanish word "Negro" which means "black" as in the color. Basically calling someone the N-word is just as racist as calling someone black.

Try telling that to the bus driver.

It doesn't matter if it's just a word, it's socially seen as unacceptable and so it is. Same with swear words, they are just words, but you won't see them being used on children's shows.

Forgot where I heard this from, but Eminem doesn't say it, so neither will we.

(I mean we will, but, you know)

This is exactly what I mean. This is why the kid got what he deserved. Calling someone the N-word is like smacking them in the head with the hammer of history. It's like saying their whole 'race' is 'lower' than yours because they used to be enslaved.

He still wouldn't have deserved to be attacked in that way. And the driver could Just have taught the kid a lesson he never forget
without putting a single finger on him.!

Hmm... no lessons I can think of would really be unforgettable.

We can all agree that the kid won't forget his "lesson" XD

If the situation were reversed? "Just with another word" Would you think the same?

A witnesses told the deputy that the driver 'slammed on brakes' and warned he'd 'shoot up [the boy's] house and kill his daddy'
as well as 'drag the victim to school by his neck until he breaks his windpipe.'

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
