You get a Sig when a Admin gives you one for one reason or another.

Its best not to worry about it. They are harder to get if you try.

Yes this is true. I spent my first 2 years on TH trying to become a mod. Never worked out. Just help people and when you get it you get it.

Actually that won't work in a way you say.. You may be good helper, but it is not the main reason (Why I would give the option to a user)..

Usually Mods and above get sigs but there are the special cases where the user helped out the admin/mods one way or another.

Are signatures that important?

I really dislike signatures, which are longer than the post itself. That's why I don't use mine.

Pleasing to the eye.

There were special cases. I wouldn't count on this happening again, at least not anytime soon.
Being kind, helpful and mature is what will get you respect from other members and, through that, possibly a signature at some point.

Out of curiosity though, what kind of contents would you put in a signature if you had one?

I would advertise my Fade System, and also my friend asked if I could advertise his graphics forums.. It's in my custom title, which is not so good place for it I think.

Yeah, this is a pretty good reason to keep it unavailable for other people.
If everyone had a signature most people would put links to their (usually not-so-successful, 20-member) sites. In addition these sites are often about things TH.net already covers so...

I suppose that all of us is included in other people.. you too..

Also, graphics is something that TheHelper supports. I see no problem in advertising site like that..

But the choice ain't mine :p

Sigs are nice when your trying to get people to look at stuff
I don't have one but it won't be nice to get one but if I don't I don't really care that much

Thats how you have to think ;)

I also thought you guys didn't give sigs because of you guys don't want to look over them as well as the forums

A forum that covers something already covered by TH is a rival

And its not like we have enough of that already...

Definitely. Can all the people on the forum be trusted to keep their sigs clean? We can't even trust them to keep their posts clean....

I have yet to find a use for my signature, I could advertise my map, or my published terraining tutorials.. but people can find them regardless so theres no real point

Really? I thought the actual reason was so that people don't clutter them with huge images.

Images are completely disabled in sigs, even for those who have them.

Sigs that link to offsite pages are lame.

Don't count on getting one, and asking how to get one may hurt your almost non-existent chance of getting one a bit. :p
Just be helpful and do it because you want to, not because you want the sig. We can tell the difference, trust me. ;)

I don't see why everyone wants a sig.
I sometimes myself find me wanting one.
Then I realize, hey, what the hell would I put on it?

I think (and this is just my opinion) that's it's not the sig itself that people want. It's the symbolism behind it. Since sigs are not given to everyone, it quickly becomes a privilege to have one. It says to people, "hey, I've been around a while and I'm helpful." A sig is not just something you use to put stuff, though that is the acutal use for it, a sig really symbolizes your status in the community.

Nope, that's why I'd like them to stay exclusive.
No idea what the real reason is, but Ghan probably got it right up there.

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
