That didn't really help.. :(
I wanted to make the file editable, and I thought it used compression...

How do you even open these files?

For example: (attributes) or a w3v or something...
Notepad doesn't cut it for me :/

So you can edit the war3map.wtg file using a hex editor? (So each byte represents a character)

~bump~

I don't understand the following line of code (note the bolded part):
int: number n of objects on this table, if 0 on the original table, then skip the default object table. This is the number of following units. Even if we don't have any changes on original table, this value must be there.
What does it mean when it says skips the default table, and what are 'following units'?

if int=0 => skip the current table to go to the default table
if int!=0 => war3map.w3u contains data (n unit definitions)
following units = every value

for instance if you don't understand what does "following units" means, here a simple answer :
.... of the following units would you use to measure force? kilowatt foot-pound or calorie?
value 1 = kilowatt
value 2 = foot-pound
value 3 = calorie

Thanks for the info Chocobo it was quite useful. What really be awsome now is a way to extract the preview image and/or war3mapmap image. but it looks like all the files are thrown into a compressed MPQ. So any idea how i would read the images or decompress the MPQ? I'm looking for a way to do this through code, not using an existing MPQ program. The limited information I have found on MPQ format is quite hazy.

hey guys ok, So I kinda get what you are all on about.
Im busy wrting a flash app and would like to use some of the models in warcraft to do so. So my research has led me to this forum. Was wondering whether you could please tell me in none genius terms how I could extract the seporate parts of .w3x file. Ive checked out winmpg ... looks pretty cool and works for most of the files Ive tried but it doesnt work for w3x wich is the one that I need. Pleas help.

For C++ extracting, StormLib is the best option I found. You have to build the libraries yourself, but you can just google StormLib and find it.

Great, great information. I always wondered what things did and have been considering making a couple programs to simplify some jobs.

There is a bug in .w3a file description. The Data fields are numbered 1=A 2=B etc, not 0=A like stated in the article. Took quite a bit of time to notice that ><

As an alternative to StormLib or the likes I am using my own MPQ library which seems to work fine in all the tools I used it in, plus it seems to be faster than most other methods; I uploaded the code to wc3c at some point but I think its outdated now (some bug fixes etc), email me at [email protected] if anyone is interested, I might fix the code and upload it somewhere.

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
