General Site Improvement ideas.

Well, i've kinda noticed that this site is getting an old look for our modern generation :D. So I had some ideas on how to make it look just that much better.

•Optional Colour Schemes - Maybe something like wc3campigns style?
•Rounded/Bubble Style Borders/Boxes etc. - What I mean by that is, the whole layout is kinda squareish. Personally, I don't like square, thats where the "rounded/bubble style" comes in.
•A new banner - Yes, yes I know it's a classic, but I think we could do better couldn't we?
•Smilies! - I think we'd all like more, or completley new ones (in terms of look).

I'm not quite sure, but I think its the version of VBulletin that you have that makes it all square, or am I just mistaken? I've been here over a year, and it's hardly changed at all except for some re-arrangements. Lets get this place, looking more like the Tutorial site. Now thats got a good look!

Anyway, your ideas?

This site is a harbour of peace in a world of stress.

Bubbly layouts are evil. They're too...frivolous, and annoying to look at.

Well, i think this is done way too much and would make the site look less professional...yes we're very professional :p (not)

nice banner

that sounds like a good idea having a contest for a new banner...but thehelper would still have to approve

i also like the idea about the themes...and we wouldnt necessarily have to have a lot, just a couple of options

I'm pretty sure there are a limited number of things you can do with vBulletin forums. But I agree the colors should be changed. I hate white/ligh backgrounds, it makes it hard to read at night when there is no light on, and it hurts your eyes.

vbulletin is open source right? when you buy the complete license?

That depends, if you mean you can modify it yes - it has full source. You can look at the full license agreement on their site.

I like the site how it is for the most part. It does have a more professional look with not so much stuff flying around and polls on the left and ads on the right with 10 different color schemes.

Of course we can always use more smileys :D

People spam the smilies too much already. We don't need to give them more reasons to do so.

Well i've been playing around with Photoshop lately, and after playing around a bit, I came up with this banner, in dedication to the site :D

(We should really make a Competition for a new banner, I think it'd be great fun :D. And Admins/Mods could pick the one they like the most.)

Anyway hope you like the banner,

Looks good to me - if you want to make it a reality feel free. Also, you can standardize the links if you like - also, if you could modify the news script so it displays like it does on WET - without all those extra links that would be awesome!

Maybe a Valve Hammer World Editor forum for mapmaking for Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source.

Something like:

Valve Hammer Editor Help
For all your Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source mapping needs.

It's my dream to learn how to use the Hammer editor, and I think it would be awsome if it had its own spot at thehelper.net.

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

I am not big on the recipes I am just promoting them - I use the site as a practice place promoting stuff

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
