Not that I have any way of knowing, but my guess is that you become a moderator if you are active, helpful, and generally cool. That's what's important.
But that doesn't mean to be hasty, all you need to gain is rep. Rep helps get you recognized, and then if you continue to constantly help, they might pick you. But seriously, don't ask for rep or else you'll get -repped. Or just not repped at all.
This is a big site, like a fancy restaurant, they don't just hand out jobs even if you apply for it.
I would say if you post with the intention of trying to become a moderator, you won't become one.
My story? I was here for about 7 or 8 months ( Not 100% sure ), and I helped a lot in the web design spot. Then, one day TH PM'ed me and asked if I wanted to mod. Then I offered to mod some other places a few months ago, and I got global mod.
It's just overall helpfulness, and ability to handle things in a mature manner.
I got a sig before being a Mod.
I became Mod of the GZ
Later I became a SuperMod
I became un-active - due to the crash
I lost my Mod status
Around 2 months later or so I became Mod of GZ
Now I'm a Super Moderator (Again)
Whether "yourself" qualifies you for a mod position, well, that will be decided in time.
Getting on staff is not the end all be all of being part of a forum.
Enjoy yourself without worrying about becoming a moderator.
That's what I would suggest.
Not that you are worried. Just a general statement.
Really, have you ever seen a mod without gaining rep first?
Well, no.
I guess it is about helpfulness which leads to rep.
But without the rep, some admins can't tell if your helpful unless they view your posts. Some read your rep log, but that probably doesn't apply for moderation.
> have you ever seen a mod without gaining rep first?
FWIW TH bumps rep when promoting to around 700.
Yes, some mods had around 200 rep before being promoted.
No, that doesn't mean they deserved it any less. The fact you thought they got all those green bars before becoming mods kind of proves the point - people can't be judged according to rep.
> But without the rep, some admins can't tell if your helpful
Admins know all. Always.
I think SFilip made it pretty clear that it has nothing to do with post count nor rep. Trust the admins, I have yet to see a moderator which I don't think deserves his title.
lol i remember when i joined i tried to be a mod i tried to help so much in the forum that it caused the opposite reaction and caused spam and i got banned weakly instead from AcHart
after that i cooled down from it and just thought for myself to just be normally active instead of trying to do the best to become a mod....
anyway if you wanna become a mod just be active normally as you want and if you deserve it eventually you will get it..... (try too hard and the reactions will be the opposite )
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.
@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.
You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
