How is Wc3 Projectile Speed Calculated?

How is it done? For example, a projectile's speed is set to 1. How much does the projectile move per 0.03 seconds?

I think it's calculated like normal movespeed, so if a speed of 1 would be 0.03wc-range/0.03seconds.

Well, with a simple test like this, the result is 0.2 range per 0.03 seconds with a speed of 10.0

Which should mean that it's 0.02 range per 0.03 seconds when speed is 1 :S

Oh ok. So basically would this get the wc3 movespeed?
JASS:
function GetWc3MoveSpeed takes real movespeed returns real
    return movespeed*0.02
endfunction

Well, that depends on what you want :S

If you want Range/second then I'd suggest you do something like:
JASS:
function GetWc3MoveSpeed takes real movespeed returns real
    return movespeed*(0.02/0.03)
endfunction

Actually i think that the projectile speed is the amount of units a projectile moves per second.

Alright, Ill stick to that. Thanks +rep

I don't quite understand.

Dirac means that he thinks that the projectile speed represents the amount of distance traveled per second. So 500 projectile speed would be 500 distance per second. I'm not sure though. You could test it by giving a unit with 0.00 Back Swing animation and Cast point. Then order it to use a simple storm bolt spell via triggers. Set the storm bolt projectile speed to 1000. Set the range to 1000. Then from there start a timer. Then use a damage detect to detect the damage taken by the target. Stop the timer. Then you can exactly tell how many seconds it took for the storm bolt to travel 1000 distance.

So 500 projectile speed would be 500 distance per second.
of course. speed is Distance over Time.

that means Distance (in wc3 units) over a period of Time (real-life seconds).

storm bolt that travels 1000 units in .5 seconds... travels at 2000 speed (in wc3 measurements)
same as a storm bolt that travels 500 units in .25 seconds. (still 2000).

@ DVD, where did you get those values...

I don't believe D.V.D wants Projectile Speed, but Movement Speed...
Meaning that in order to test it, he should move a unit, from point A to point B ( Maybe like 100 range between, and a movement speed of 100) and check how long it takes :D

This is how I did my test, and the result is above ;)

I've tested move speed before. 522 move speed didn't give me the exact value of 522 distance. However, it did give me somewhere close to that value.

maybe the unit took time to turn?.. sometimes they have to turn a certain angle before they start to move.

Ok, I used this to test the speed:
JASS:
globals
    real x
endglobals

function CheckDist takes nothing returns nothing
    local real x1 = GetUnitX( gg_unit_Hpal_0003 )
    call DisplayTextToPlayer( Player( 0 ), 0.0, 0.0, R2S( DistanceBetweenPoints( Location( x, GetUnitY( gg_unit_Hpal_0003 ) ), Location( x1, GetUnitY( gg_unit_Hpal_0003 ) ) ) ) )
endfunction

function Trig_Speed_Test_Actions takes nothing returns nothing
    local timer t = CreateTimer()

    set x = GetUnitX( gg_unit_Hpal_0003 )

    call IssuePointOrder( gg_unit_Hpal_0003, "move", GetUnitX( gg_unit_Hpal_0003 ) + 500, GetUnitY( gg_unit_Hpal_0003 ) )

    call TimerStart( t, 1., false, function CheckDist )
endfunction

//===========================================================================
function InitTrig_Speed_Test takes nothing returns nothing
    set gg_trg_Speed_Test = CreateTrigger(  )
    call TriggerRegisterTimerEvent( gg_trg_Speed_Test, 2., false )
    call TriggerAddAction( gg_trg_Speed_Test, function Trig_Speed_Test_Actions )

    call SetUnitFacing( gg_unit_Hpal_0003, 0. )
endfunction

And as you can see, I ordered the unit to turn the correct way at map init, and then wait a while...

This script gave me like 98.966 or something :S

So you were correct :D

also just a fyi, the units are pixels (522 movement speed means 522 pixels per second), and like others said there is also turning time/etc, but about that much)
