MapGaurd
v0.A.1

Introduction
Yes, there are many map protector tools out there these days so you may be thinking to yourself why another?
Well, I believe this one implements some new functionality that others do not. MapGaurd lets you lock your map with a password, so if you somehow lose your maps original copy, you can go back and unlock it.

MapGaurd also includes a few script features that implement some safety into your map. Currently only disabling single player exists, though I plan on adding a few more methods such as Jesus4Lyf's C2I protection.

If you want to use this tool you need the following;

Using With Vex's Optimizer
Vex's map optimizer is arguably one of the greatest tools for Warcraft maps, so I decided to make this tool work with it, allowing you to combine the two tools. Simply un-tick the "Remove Editor Only Files" and "Remove as much WE only data as possible" boxes and all should be fine.

FAQ
  • How does it work?
    • That's for the "hackers" to find out.
  • Can you implement YOUR_SYSTEM_HERE
    • Reply to the thread.
  • Why does my map get bigger?
    • It should only increase your maps size by 1 or 2 kilobytes, which is almost no difference. It's because it's editing some of the internal files changing the size.
  • So this can make my map unhackable?
    • No tool can make your map unhackable, this makes it unopenable in the editor for noobs trying to hack your map. The best way to keep hackers away is to create plenty of roadblocks in the maps script. So combining this tool and vex's map optimizer makes a pretty good team.

How exactly did you go about disabling single player?

Pretty useless unless you add the extra methods. Using Vex will be a better method and it will compress your map.

Yes, it is.
Could you change the name of this please?
Two resources with the same name.

Those are two essential features of Vexorians Optimizer.

How does "Open your map with a password" work?

You should make a tool "shit importer" import big quantity of useless files that takes no memory. Would takes days to find the war3map.j :) :)

OH and.
How are called the pannels where can read the text "MapLock Options" and "Map Options"

It's graveyarded..

How does "Open your map with a password" work?

I'd rather not say.

EDIT: or did you mean how do you unlock your map? Simply open the w3x file, the tool will detect if it's locked or not.

Hardly essential, just reduces map size a little. The script obfuscation is what counts.

Group box, I think.

You can combine them.

It's still widely used though. In fact, it should probably be moved back to T&R now that a new method of doing the return bug has been discovered. I'll leave that to J4L though, as he'd need to update it.

> I'd rather not say.
Maybe I should rephrase that, because I doubt you wouldn't answer what I meant.
If I 'locked' my map with this with the password "ABC123", then lost the original, how would I get the original map back knowing this password?

Judging by the name of those functions, they help optimize the map quite a lot.
And well.. 'Optimizer' is in the name, right?

> You should make a tool "shit importer" import big quantity of useless files that takes no memory. Would takes days to find the war3map.j
Not really. People would look for the one that's called "war3map.j".

Yea, I realized after I re-read it. Check the edit in my previous post.

Deleting those files would save about 100-300kb, depending on how big your map is and how much content is in it.

If you can't spare that space then don't use this tool, the optimizer will still reduce the size a lot with the other options.

But the name is so.... sexy. I don't really want to change it for a resource that is in the graveyard. I he does decide to fix it, I guess I can try to find an alternative.

Using mpq editor or WinMPQ, importing tons of dummy files, then you uptimize the map and all the files become file06059494.xxx etc(...)

You can't change the war3map.j's filename or else you cannot play the map

I wonder which one I should open.

It's 'fixed', he just hasn't updated the first post. It'd save trouble if you renamed this so that we'd be able to approve both systems at one time.
Even a simple change to something such as "MapLocker" would be fine. :p

> EDIT: or did you mean how do you unlock your map? Simply open the w3x file, the tool will detect if it's locked or not.
So does the tool need to be opened whilst the map is being opened?
Then what happens? An "enter password" dialog enters, I presume?

Lock:
1. Open map with my tool.
2. Create password, and hit lock.
3. Try to open in the editor and it will be corrupted.

Unlock
1. Open map with my tool.
2. Type password, hit unlock.
3. Try to open in the editor and it will be not corrupted.

I guess the whole "noobs only" thing remains unchanged. :p
I unprotected a map protected with this in about 3 minutes.

Oh well. It's fortunate that anybody capable of doing that won't have a reason for deprotecting maps.

As you may have gathered, I tested this. It's pretty cool that you can actually use a password to protect the map.
Now, there's a bit of a problem. When I tried unlocking the map with a password, I got an Unhandled Exception.

Try closing the program, and re-opening it. I've gotten that a few times but I can't locate the problem.

I will keep searching, I also plan on increasing security, still brainstorming.

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
