You've been lost in these dreaded woods for days, your rations have dwindled to nothing; you've scrapped out every crumb you had, and now, nothing for even a mouse. The rain refuses to let up; a endless torrent of water that soaks the earth and blankets the ground and leaves with a beautiful glitter. It'd be more beautiful, if it'd come to an end and bring out the warming sun You trudge through the mud shivering holding you soaked clothes close to yourself, hoping it might warm you up even just a little bit. Every gust of wind tortures you, as you desperately pick a direction, and decide you have no choice but to run, before starvation strikes. Maybe you'll find the exit to these dreaded woods? Maybe food, anything that looks mildly edible?
Just then, through a clearing of the trees, you see something, you think your eyes are playing tricks on you, but slowly you become very sure, that is smoke, and in this rain, it cannot be natural, it must be someone! You race to your new found hope, to find the strangest thing laying in the middle of the deep woods; a tavern. You rush to the wooden structure in excitement and a sense of salvation
You open the door, as the sign sways above your head in the wind. "The Wayward Inn", it reads, but you don't care. It must be warm inside; and they probably have food! You quickly enter, and shut the door, and everyone takes a peek at you... This place is packed, you can't believe how many people are here! So many strange people, all dressed in different ways, you can only imagine where they come from.
You have a seat at the bar, between a rather skinny fellow in a cloak, and a large, shirtless, musclebound man. They continue to drink, as the bartender comes along. A somewhat stout fellow, with a balding head, but a magnificent beard. He must've never shaven in his life to grow that thing.
He looks at you, and smiles, as he calmly asks "You're new here, aren't you?". You begin to speak, as he interrupts you. "Well, your room is on the third floor, third on the left. You got yourself in a pickle here you know." You feel a bit worried; what's going to happen? Is this a secret place you shouldn't know of? You ask the bartender why you're in a pickle, with a nervous tickle in your throat
The Bartender shakes his head calmly. "Relax, relax... Its just, no one ever leaves this Inn. Once you enter, the door never opens again. We all found this place, and from what we get, we come from different places; different worlds even. I was the first here. well, technically thats untrue; there was a polar bear here before me, milling about." You're beginning to think this man is insane.
However, your curiosity gets the best of you, and you try to open the door. You yank, and pull, yet get no where; thats when you feel a nudge on your leg. You turn, and see a Polar Bear, with a key around its neck. You begin to freak out, as it just looks at you and leaves you to your racing heart. You look at the stairs, and the people here, and it begins to settle on you.
This is your new home... For now.
