Hi, everyone,

It's been a long time since I posted (since the move from the last forums), but I recently came across the Doom improvements I had made a couple years back. I don't recall if Kevin ever put them on N-D, so here they are. Just download the existing source, overlay these files on top, and voila! Or just burn the NUON.cd file if you prefer. :)

Cool, I never saw these before. Thanks Carl! I'll give it a try later, when I have a chance.

By the way Carl, it's been a while. I hope you are doing well. I've returned, and brought back my website (Atarian Sun Developments) with me. I've been out of touch for a while, so I've been spending time catching up, and finding content for my sites.

You know, I was just thinking about this the other day. I was wondering if we had enough new software to justify publishing a second Games + Demos collection. Maybe after Robot Ron...

If you want to create a new full source archive using these modified files, go for it. Or any other use is fine as well.

It's great to hear that there is someone still breathing "some" life into the NUON!! When you said improvements, what kind of improvements are you referring to?

Well, the problem is I don't remember what all I did, because the old forums are gone and it's been about 2 years since I compared my source to the original. ;) I know I fixed the weapon select so you can easily cycle through the weapons. I also moved the WAD file to a new location with the near-maximum RAM available; basically, I made it easier to use other WADs with this code.

I don't remember if I did any other gameplay changes. I encourage you to build it and check it out for yourself!

I think you fixed up some of the control issues - we posted the file to the forums but I don't think I ever got it up on N-D. I'll have to look through the news archives and see if I ever wrote anything up on it.

That sounds right. I think I fixed/implemented strafing, too.

Bumping for great justice! Any hope of anyone taking over the NUON Dome stuff so we can represent the platform better than the Lego Brick version :)

I absolutely do not know WTF I was trying to say here... I think that I was saying take over the Code for Doom that is on the NUON-Dome but I think Songbird has the latest version. I certainly was not talking about taking over NUON-Dome the website that is Kevs site I just host and admin the forum.

    Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though

    I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work

    Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm

    So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man

    I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.

    Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart

    Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
