But identity theft is real. Some banks let you create "one time use" credit card numbers that become worthless after being used.

This. I'm a waiter and I can hold onto cards long enough to memorize the numbers and CVV2. Too easy. Takes me the most of 30 seconds to get it shortly memorized and quickly write it down. I've timed myself. A waiter is more dangerous to you than Windows.
