This thing is absolutely insane.

The Sony PSP2 has arrived under the codename NGP. It has a 5-inch OLED touchscreen, dual analog sticks, front/rear cameras,a touch-sensitive panel on the back of the device used for control along with a quad-core CPU and GPU. (Updated)

Update: Turns out the internal magic of the PSP2 lies in its quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor and quad-core PowerVR SGX534MP4+ GPU. I'm scared to think how big the battery has to be to power this thing.

In addition to the above specs, the PSP2/NGP has 3G, Bluetooth and GPS, along with wi-fi, and Sony claims this thing is as powerful as a PS3. The 5-inch screen is roughly 4x higher resolution than what's previously been featured in PSP devices (960x544). Kotaku says the screen is a beauty with impressive viewing angles.

I'm not buying that unless there's some really good games for it. And a reasonable price of course. Anyway, that's a really awesome hand-held Sony got there. :)

They can easily port PS3 games onto it. You'll probably see a lot PS3 games for it?

But again they're going for horse power rather than something new and interesting.

the specs on that thing are just WTF BOOM, although from the picture it looks like the PSP is losing the XMB, which i really liked.

There's going to be some really good games for this. The Playstation has a LOT of flagship platform exclusives that will show up on this.
But again they're going for horse power rather than something new and interesting.
Quite frankly, I'm not exactly sure what you can do with handhelds anymore that could be considered as "new" or "interesting" beyond what we have, except maybe 3D (though I honestly am not a fan of 3D). Plus, with all the other things crammed in, the things this will be capable of will mean we see better games than before on handheld, and its connectivity with the PSN store means we still get good minis for short bursts of gaming.

I passed on the original PSP, and haven't picked up any other handheld either (for many reasons I won't go into), but this one... this, I think, is the one. :)

>Sony claims this thing is as powerful as a PS3
I also claim my phone is as powerful as my desktop. The usual big mouth bullshit from Sony.

>I'm scared to think how big the battery has to be to power this thing.
My guess is the original PSP battery (2200mah) will last about 3-4 hours on the thing.

I will see about the real thing until I draw judgement, judging by the way Sony's been doing on the mobile scene (all about the spectacles, and piss-poor execution).

But NGP is only the codename, no?

I don't know if you were replying to my domain name or not but, most people are referring to it as a NGP now. If my website gets anywhere near successful, I will change the domain name as soon as they decide on an official name.

I've been hoping for a decent new handheld console for school/holidays. The 3DS looks like it won't cut it this time, as it's too expensive, and not much of an improvement over the DS.

I'm interested in seeing the game lineup and price for this. :D

i don't see the point of the "PSP phone", other than social gaming/reincarnated n-gage comparing to this bad-ass..any release dates?

The pattern looks very WIP.

Would be hilarious if you can't push the sticks inside the device.

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
  • Ghan Ghan:
