Everyone who's "worth it" pays taxes. If a CEO of a big company does well and is rewarded for it, he pays taxes. If you win in a lottery, you'll have to pay taxes. Even the Obama family pays taxes.

Prize money, at least in the US, is taxed. I don't see why Olympic medalists should be treated differently than anyone else. Same rules for all people, everything else is unjust.

I said I want equal treatment for everyone. So if prize money is taxed, so should prize money for Olympic wins. Whether taxing prize money is a good thing .. I don't know. I've never won anything that would have to be taxed so I never really thought about it.

It's called, "the price of fame." What it comes down to is that if we take money from the IRS, the IRS is just gonna find someone else to take money from. Why give them a reason to try to take even more money from us?

I just don't see why there is a need to discriminate people based on why they got their prize money. If you think the IRS is wasting all the taxes (and I'd probably agree; most governments do) then that's an entirely different issue! You could just as well argue to get rid of any and all taxes on the basis of wasting money. But that's just as insane as cranking them up to 99%.
