So who's going into Starcraft2 mapping right away?

Will you be moving to Starcraft2 Mapping?

Personally, I am. There's going to be a wave of map makers that move from wc3 to sc2. Most of them will be idiots who are like 'WTF THE GUI IS DIFFERENT THIS SUCKS' without realizing it's a different engine, with different codes.

It will be interesting to see how many 'dota' games are created in the first week of sc2's release.

If you are moving from Warcraft3 to Starcraft2 , please make a topic with the current game(s) that you are working on, please make sure they are unprotected. Those will greatly help new map makers, and since you are moving to sc2 you won't notice who steals your credit.

I wonder how good the programming language will be, and how much it limits people...

I'm sorry but that is the dumbest thing anyone could do. You still want credit even if you don't play that game...

I really don't care if the program is different. I'll just learn it. Besides with summer around the corner. I got almost nothing but time.

Woah people, the release date is not yet announced, not to mention that we aren't even sure if it will include anything more advanced than a terrain editor.

Yeah, it's probably going to be an editor at least as advanced as WC's (at some point). However it's too early at this point to simply say that you'll move to it as soon as possible.

I'm actually more interested to see where this forums takes it. Will there be new forums? Essentially a duplicate of the WE Help areas for the SE Help? Because if the editor is as advanced as the Wc3 one (compared to Sc1) then quite a few people will use it.

Yah but I think that Starcraft is going to stay as basic as it was before. Maybe the World Editor will be better but there wont be any heros or stuff like that.

So people are just going to have to be more creative. Not a bad thing.

I will try to balance both (scifi and medieval games are WAY different, even if the map editors, interface, etc are really similar) on my tab, as WC3 never gets old.

I will begin SC2 mapping right away, though. By "right away" I mean as soon as I get it, which may not be "right away".

I'm not sure, it depends on what Starcraft 2 offers.

Is there even much difference between Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2? They both look like a cartoon-cutscened-threedimensional-game. Anyway I think Warcraft 3 has more possibilities, because Starcraft 2 takes a place to the future.

A bit off topic but have you seen the editor for Crysis? It looks freaking sweet :D it will probrably be real hard though
http://youtube.com/watch?v=0QeUcxgLxxE

I can really see SC2 as having either an editor only as powerful as wc3, or way to powerful that its not easy to learn (like I did... I didnt even know about forums when I started :p)

Needless to say, Im probrably done mapping. Too much work, not enough reward eh

Cant compete with DotA, watch it move on to starcraft 2 -_- hope they dont allow you to make heros at all!

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
