Wow...

Really nice tutorial, one thing to add, instead of using Blizzard's cliff water use the whole thing with raising plateauing waterifying leveling and lowering process to get natural water. :p

it is not, or never was my intention to teach you generic terraining tricks, the goal was to demonstrate the use of doodads/units for use in a specific darker setting

sorry for the 8 month bump if its not allowed ..
This tutorial is AMAZING! I have very basic terraining experience but the use of doodads in this tutorial taught me lots of things. Its also easy to understand.

Heres some screenshots that of wat i have done using only this tutorial: (800x600 images)(Btw, can u get the sky to show up in the editor? or is it only ingame?)

I think tutorial will be useful for any maps i decide to make in the future. Thx Again, +rep =D

Also i think that something u can add to make the terrain more spookier is to change the color tint of the water to dark teal, i did that in the screenshots

If you press the key "V" in the editor, it will switch to game view

:p i prefer using light or dark gray on the water tint, but dark teal looks good :D

Hey mate, very good job. I'm still fairly new at mapping and I really liked this scene and your way of making it look uptight. I was hoping someone would be able to explain how to change the watertint though..

Anyways, thanks.

Something Missing...

It is a very good tutorial. it really helped me with the single player maps I'm working on. Very good. One thing that i think is missing is a way to keep the ghosts in the area if there was no river. I will do that here:

Note: This is a very simple version and you may want to Advance it a bit more for your area.

Keeping In the Ghosts
Events
Unit - A unit leaves Dark Scenery Area <gen>
Conditions
(Unit-type of (Leaving unit)) Equal to Ghost
Actions
Unit - Order (Leaving unit) to Move To (Center of Dark Scenery Area <gen>)

If Human or Computer Players other than Neutral Passive/Hostile can own ghosts, then you will need to use the approprite number of "Player Comparison" conditions to varify the correct owner(s).

Don't Use "Unit - Move Unit (Instantly) because it looks a little bit weird if 1 second the ghost is at the edge of the region and next second he is in the middle of it.

I might make a thread with a detailed tutorial on this later, but this should do for a lot of simple cases.

My Tip: Don't have empty spaces around your Dark Scenery area because it will look unusual if a ghost stops in the middle of no-where outside the dark scenery and then come back into it.

Must admit, the works that people have done that are based off of you are pretty impressive. Good job on this!

cool scenery... and its given me a great idea for a undead cult type thing! where you can use like a broken down cathedral or something as a centre piece, and the odd 'evil' rune here or there...

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
