Ryoko wanted a basic rivers tutorial using a different method. Here it is, I'll revise it later tonight since I am EXTREMELY bored today.

--------------------------

Making Rivers and Lakes

Introduction:

Rivers and lakes are made with a method that might seem over-complicated at first, but it makes editing and redoing lakes and rivers much simpler and much faster. This method involves 'sinking' the entire map, then raising the level, and setting your pools of water. Since we're doing such a drastic change to the map, this method is best done at the beginning. I will be using a 32x32 map for this example.

Recognizing your tools:

First and foremost, we need to know which tools we will be using. In the picture below, I have circled the tools we will be using.

Buttons.jpg

From left-to-right top-to-bottom, the buttons are: Water, Raise, Lower, and Plateau.

Getting Started:

We start out by going under Advanced and UNCHECKING "Enforce Water Height Limits".

Now, grab your Water button (See above picture) and grab a relatively large brush circle or squre (Whichever you prefer) and start drawing water until the whole map is underwater.

Leveling your map:

We now need to put the map to the way it was, with solid land.

Grab your "Increase One" tool and begin to level the terrain out. This is where we start crafting our rivers and lakes.

Creating the pools of water:

Now, grab the "Lower" tool with a relatively large brush, and begin lowering the land enough until you see the water. The lower you lower the land, the deeper and thicker the water becomes.

Redoing your water:

You can redo the water by grabbing the Plataeu tool (So there won't be any bumps from the Lower tool) and pick a solid, flat peice of land on your map. Hold the mouse button down, and begin moving it around the map. The water will dissapear and the map will be level again.

Tips of the Trade

~We can change the tinting of the water by doing to Scenario>Map Options and looking for the "Use Tinting Water Color". Hit "Set Color" and pick a color. When you hit ok in the Scenario window, you can see the water change colors. Set this to a color you desire.

~We can also make the water very shallow. Grab a small brushed lowering tool and lower the land in a circle. Keep doing this until the water appears, but it should be very shallow. If you want it flat, grab the Pltaeu tool and pick a spot in the water that's the level you want. Plateau that area and it will be flat.

Creating Rivers (via the 'sink the whole map' method)
Someone did a rivers tutorial, but after many posts and advice, it has not been revised. I think the author left it for dead. I would still like a tutorial covering this topic.

He's talking about YOU. Re-read the quote and figure out why I wrote this.

I know why you wrote this, and I know why he requested it. I just dont see why in the hell they need another one? To post in the tutorial list? Pfft thats what the mods are for. Most of the ones that anyone ever uses im sure are made by Ryoko anyways...

I never meant to be rude to you conan its just... well we dont need anymore stupid water tutorials, theres 2, theres a search button where you can find at least 5 more.

Hey, if Ryoko wanted MY Tutorial on Lakes and blah, he could've let ME know! I wrote one on OM. How long ago was it? *Checks* The 25th of August!

(Not to mention there are plenty around, just wondering why conan is making a tutorial on lakes and stuff)

Are people blind? You jsut answered your own question. Ryoko requested it, so I made it.

Oh, and, I don't think Ryoko checks OM because there's no need to. You can't expect him to know everything.

Oh, and, thanks for all the feedback guys, I really appreciate it!

Oh Lord.

OKAY.

http://www.thehelper.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19738
This tutorial is nice, but its very very specific method. It shouldn't be called 'Water Level Tutorial', it should be called 'Water Falls'.

http://www.thehelper.net/forums/showthread.php?t=22067
This is the one by Husky. Aparrently, its been edited since I last looked at it. But I dont see not one picture (in the TUTORIAL) of what the hell he is talking about. This should be called 'Making Rivers'. Which is nice because he does the same thing without flooding the whole map.

Now this thread.

This one is probobly the most non-eye apealing, as it uses all dirt. But, I know what hes talking about, and a picture was included. So lets break it down

QUAKE
+Covers waterfalls.
+Very good results.
+Picture included.
- Very scenario specific.

HUSKY
+Covers rivers.
+Does it WITHOUT flooding whole map
+Produces good results
-No pictures of steps, or tools used, or results.

CONAN
+Covers lakes.
+Most understandable
+Shows flood method <-- Only one that did
+Includes pictures
-But boring pictures.
-Mostly designed for lakes or islands.

SOOOOOOO

What we have is 1 lakes/flood, 1 rivers, 1 waterfalls.

Which one do we want? All three? One combined? I dunno!

OH, AND, I'm clueless whats on OM.....

Probably 3 different sections with a controlling index page - possibly containing an introduction and links to the tutorials. Combining in one big mass would probably take alot of time and work - That way you could give correct credit - plus have the terraining index done for other tutorials for other types of specialized terrain.

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
