No one likes SMF, well, compared to vB not many people do, so hay, what can we do? We're donating ourselves and asking you to round up some more money so we can go out and buy one. Unfortunately, neither of us are rich and can't donate that much money. :)

We can't just allow people to join as mods at will. It's more a desire for power; they think it'd be cool if they could go around something like TH and boss everyone around. They're's two problems with that:
  • Having tons of moderators that aren't good doesn't help: if he has more posts and less rep than a standard user, they're not going to like him moderating very much.
  • We won't let them.
It's up to you, but I'm a bit skeptical of you allowing people in if they pass your "tests".

I swear I said I'd trial him on my post before last. I think I realised that. Plus, if we just gave it to higher rep users, it'd be totally unfair. My tests are fair, and they're done properly. Even if the moderator has 0 rep, that's not his fault, seen as the forum hasn't been open for long, no one really has that much rep anyway.

It is free, yes. But, it's the closest we've got to a vBulletin so far, and all the other free forums lack most things.

Success!

The first project is undergo, and funnily enough, terraining is going quite slow (Andrewgosu wins :(). Although, after a few more turns I'll be giving it to dedicated terrainers that will actually work on it, and work lots.

Systems are also underway, and many of our staff are participating in ideas to boost these systems.

We encourage all staff to be on MapCrafting.com as much as TheHelper minus 1/3 of the total time spent on TheHelper.

After a while, we will be removing members that are inactive, unless they are BETA Testers, or can simply not help with the map at this time (AI, etc.).

I can help with public relations, moderation, and project leadership if you need it. I didn't really read all of your post, as it's really long and that's a lot of words, so I don't know if you posted something about qualities you look for in people.

And am I going to be expected to join a clan or something? That part may be an issue as I've kind of become leader of my clan, however bad of one it is at this time.

In my opinion the wc3 community needs a new style of map. The closest fit I found was strategy. We need more games where you sit and think, not just mindlessly send hordes of units. Example of a map I'm talking about is where you are trapped and you have to interact with the environment to get through. One such obstacle would be you are behind a wall. You have to use an axe to cut trees then use vines on the trees to tie together a ladder. That is a very crappy example but stuff like that where you think about what you are doing. This can be done in several other ways to, in the simple way of adding in a not so obvious counter to very strong units. If you are facing a fire unit, you would use water type spells, for example. This, however, would not be stated in the tooltip. I believe that any game where you need to work together and think about the order in which to do things is successful in warcraft. I hate to being throwing an obvious example of one map that has done this (DotA) but you can see that you need to use strategy. Like invoker should cast the spell that moves units back along with his meteor spell, then it will deal insane damage. There are things like that trickled throughout DotA. If you can do as good of a job then any style map can do just as good.

Yeah, strategy has already been picked as our map, we need active members, dedicated members actually, not mods or anything like that, however if you are dedicated enough, I, or one of the staff will gladly promote you.

I agree with you totally. Massing units is not fun. We're doing a medieval strategy game and we hope to succeed in placing that strategy element in our map.

The problem is that we have almost more moderators than mapmakers(if not more) It might've changed because people got inactive or failed the moderator test.

If you want to be a mod, register at our forum and ask to take the test.

humm no i won't become one. I really can't be botherd to take a test and even if i pass i might not be able to be a mod. If this no gaurenteed places for people who pass i won't take it! :(

I haven't read through every post in this thread... but is there any progress on the strategy map? I had a look at your website and I couldn't find the community mapping project anywhere. Maybe you should put a link for the current project in the first post so people can check it out

You misunderstood me. First of all the test doesn't take that much time. Also, if you pass the test, you will have a guaranteed place as a mod.

I haven't read through every post in this thread... but is there any progress on the strategy map? I had a look at your website and I couldn't find the community mapping project anywhere. Maybe you should put a link for the current project in the first post so people can check it out

There's not much information to look at from the outside right now. We've come up with alot of ideas, made some system and some terrain but i'm afraid there's nothing for the outside yet. We can't really tell the progress like you do in most maps( terrain 10%, trigger 20% etc) Since we haven't got that far yet.

Remember that this is a big project and we're all aiming high.

Don't forget that you can still help, there are still places in the project for everyone except maybe mods(Even though you might still ask since i'm not exactly sure.)

Non members cant see the Project thread, second, about the mods, they are just modding a thread or forum, TRUST me on this that there are no people to moderate, and we haven't had to act mean or not allow people to do certain things, be a well respected member, much better then being a mod! Please don't think just because you aren't a mod means you have no power, we all think of each other as equals in one way or another.

This forum is growing, and just contribute once in a while, you'll grow to like it, trust me.

    I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work

    Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm

    So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man

And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.

    Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart

    Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
