One of the simplest distinctions is the use of tomatoes: Creole dishes typically contain tomatoes or tomato-based sauces while traditional Cajun food does not.
Creole is slightly more refined and historically associated with restaurant food, while Cajun is more like grandma's home cooking.
Cajun food is typically spicier than Creole food, and it also contains more pork and crawfish. Creole food utilizes more ingredients like tomatoes, shrimp, oysters, and crab.
