[WIP] Norse Cosmology

Was listening a bit to much at Finntroll the other night and got a burning urge to make a piece related to Norse Mythology, so here's a WIP of the Norse Cosmology.

The textpiece to the left is a transliteration into Younger Futhark of something I wrote myself in (a rough) "Äldre Nysvenska" (Old Modern Swedish?) (16th - 17th century). Which makes it incorrect in a way, but what the hell, I can understand what it reads unlike old swedish, however Im working on a translation into Old Norse, which would be the right language for the period!

It reads as follows in English:

The cold of the great winter(Fimbulwinter) sleeps over the world of men (Manheimr).
In the third years dawn the Gjallarhorn thunders.
Yggdrasil shudders and groans.
Hrym sails from Jotunheim.
The Midgard Serpent(Jörmungandr) makes the seas surge with furious writhing.
The Giants(Jötnar) of the World of Fire(Muspellsheimr) will come.
The dwarves(Svartalfar/Dark Elves) will groan by the stone doors.
See the nightwolves swallow Moon(Mani) and Sun(Sol).
See the darkness and Bifröst fall.
Every man cowers, for Ragnarökkr has come.

In "Äldre Nysvenska":

Í tride árs gryning dundra Gjallarhorn .
Yggdrasil ryso ok knaka.
Hrym í fraa Jotunheim segill.
Jörmungandr hafven svalla af ilskne kromning.

PS: I found the task of translation more enjoyable than the painting of the picture.

I like it. All I can nitpick on at this point is clean up some of the dark bold shadows (they have a few spots not fully filled) and where you have some blocky styled illustration to make sure it is block. I like it though.

If you mean the shadows, as in the deeper shadows on the snake, there will in the and be a lot more of them, My plan is to almost clutter the complete image with references to Norse Mytho.

PS: I found the task of translation more enjoyable than the painting of the picture.

It's funny, I can actually read/write this alphabet fluently. I learned it in High School and actually adopted it as my "secret" language to make notes I didn't want people to read or pass notes to my friends.

Samael, there are a lot of creatures/characters missing, the current version also has a Valkyr, Ask and Embla. I'm thinking of how to add the most in small spaces, such as all the gods, or atleast the most prominent ones.

But currently working on a translation from Swedish/Old Modern Swedisih to Early Old Swedish, which is kind of a hassle

Mind if I could ask how you're going about doing the translating? You've sparked my curiosity :thup:

By reading most of the swedish runic texts available with a translation/literation and/or modernization, reading up on Old East Norse grammatical rules and having a great interest in the matter
(Though most stones were raised in memory to a person, sort of like a gravestone, without a grave, simply stating "Raised by NAME in memory of NAME, may god have mercy on his soul" or similar)

Also, it's good reading how the professionals come to conclusions regarding forms and ruined texts depending on context, period and location.
