A heat wave in India has killed more than 2,100 people. Weather officials are warning the intense heat will continue in wide areas of the country until Monday.

Daytime temperatures have topped 40 degrees Celsius for more than a week.

Officials in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, as well as the eastern state of Odisha, say heat stroke and dehydration have killed more than 2,100 people.

Many of the victims were poor laborers working outdoors in the scorching heat.

Some experts say people may have had difficulty adapting to the unusually sharp rise in temperature this year.

Man, fuck being so poor that you have to work yourself to death just trying to stay alive. I mean, I get that we're all doing that in a dumb, existential sort of way, but these guys are damned if they do and damned if they don't. That's a special kind of poor I'm glad I'm not a part of.
