You could use the selection size circle, but you'll have to test to find out what scale matches what range. That will probably take some time to get...

There's a Unit - Shop Share or Shop - Shared or something like that somewhere in the object editor which should be set to true.

Depending on how far you are with your map, I'll help with heroes/items. (In case you're wondering, that's if you're almost done, because I don't like starting on something that won't get finished anyway)

If there's enough free player slots, then you could use a different player slot which will only own the heroes. Have it have a custom colour, in this case teal, and share controll with that computer.
