And get an understanding for diffrent sound synthesis technics. A "bubble laser" fx for example is made with selfoscilating filters. And still, even if you don't want to make sci-fi fx, synthesizers (or more accurate - samplers) are great to transform recordings and give them the right edge...

Hmm.. if with "load" you mean load the specific image files then I'd say 1, since they probably will be used in more than one loop.. (or enter the loop more than once) And, what framework do you work with? (as I presume you haven't written your own..)
