Weird Fight for the Right to Watch Trek

Fans of the Star Trek: Enterprise TV show are protesting the show's cancellation with street demonstrations in Los Angeles, New York, Washington, London and Tel Aviv.

Trekkies are holding rallies worldwide on Friday to bring attention to their cause. Rallies will be held at the Paramount studios in Los Angeles and at the offices of CBS and the Sci-Fi channel in New York. Additional rallies are set for the local Fox affiliate in Washington, D.C., the offices of the BBC and Channel 4 in London, and at Tel Aviv University in Israel.

The United Paramount Network canceled the show earlier this month at the end of its fourth season, which is set to conclude in May. If canceled, television would be left without a Star Trek show for the first time in nearly 20 years.

The campaign to save the show is headed by Trekkie Tim Brazeal. Brazeal, 42, is galvanizing thousands of fans worldwide to collect $32 million to pay for the cost of a fifth season of Star Trek: Enterprise.

they do seem to be planning a lot of rallies, but unfortunately they are not getting the numbers one would hope. I know the LA one got about 150 people at most which isn't that great.

They are trying to collect $30 million dollars to pay for season 5, but it seems unlikely that will happen - only $50,000 has been raised so far.

Unfortunately for the show, they are cancelling it just when it is getting good. The creators of the show did a poor job in the first 2 seasons and created much furore in the fanbase, such that the show seemed destined for the axe.

But then for season 3 they brought in a new writer, Manny Coto, a very creative and talented writer who knows what Star Trek fans want in a Star Trek show, and so seasons 3 and 4 resurrected the show from the grave and turned it into something worthy of pride.

If the show was axed 2 years ago, I wouldn't have cared too much. But getting axed now is a little depressing for cast, crew and fans alike.
