What will you be doing on Christmas eve / New year's eve? Just wondering!

Well, It doesn't matter whether "you actually celebrate the day or not" or in fact whether you even like the day.
So how will you be spending yours?

As long as you're stocking up on shit that'll get used up when it doesn't end, I think you're good to go.

Yeah, I have like 800 pounds of these boxes that have a 25 year shelf life and a bunch of water, and I'm going to get a big bag of charcoal. The food's not bad and I don't drink tap water here, it's not good, so I should be good for a few months there I think. I'm putting a bunch of it in my car, because I intend on taking that as far as I can if I have to leave. I'm trying to get parts that I might need for it, just in case I break down, but I haven't had time to get down to the scrap yard yet to take their stuff. But I can only carry so much in bag. I'm guessing like a hundred, hundred twenty pounds at most, but I need to be able to drop it down to 80 pounds, so most of it will be excess food or water that I can throw out if I need to, maybe a few other luxuries. I can move fast with 80 pounds. I do NOT have my guns though and that concerns me, so I'm not sure what to do about that.

If the world goes all apocalyptic then you're gonna need dem guns. I'd be more worried about that than spare parts for your car - it'll probably last you 'til where you need to go if you're gonna make it there, and once you've got a new home base you can start scavenging for spare parts off all the other abandoned, half-fucked cars out there. Charcoal's a great idea though... make sure you don't forget to stock up hard on lighters. That'll be a game-changer out there.

Ha, ha. Dude I'm afraid to take my car to Flagstaff to go snowboarding. Let alone Greenland. I expect to make it over towards Texas, and I have a buddy there that never took his keys from me. But really I mostly think I just need to get out of the city because I'm more worried about a bunch of crazy shit going down from riots that day. And I can't get my guns back down in time, I didn't really think about it. Plus I suppose it isn't that big of a deal considering I doubt anything is going to happen, but it HAS been fun preparing for it. I kind of wish I had my money instead though... Varine needs something expensive for Christmas.

If the world is coming to an end, I really hope I make it past the event that fucks up the majority of people. I really think I could thrive in a post-apocalyptic community. Myself, well... I can grow plants, at least. Let's hope the environment doesn't go to shit so I can get that far.

I was gonna say the same thing, but it felt a li'l dainty-handed when I typed it out. But let's rock this shit out.

Where's the first checkpoint?

Where are you? I'm in Phoenix, and I'm going towards Greenland, gonna get to the Air Force base up there and make camp. Zombies can't come because it's cold, should have facilities to grow food, lots of room, solar panels I think. My route is from here to Flagstaff, Albuquerque, then towards Oklahoma City to Indianapolis, and then I'm not sure. Ideally I would go to Buffalo, and head over to Maine and get on the I95 and then make my way into Canada and down towards Halifax or something, and get myself a ship. From there on out, it's only the seas and cold I have to contend with.

How come you're so into recipes lately? Never saw this much interest in this topic in the old days of TH.net
  • Monovertex Monovertex:
Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am not big on the recipes I am just promoting them - I use the site as a practice place promoting stuff

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.
  • The Helper The Helper:
You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
  • Ghan Ghan:
Heard Houston got hit pretty bad by storms last night. Hope all is well with TH.
