Channel Lightning Effects.

Heya all! I've made a channeling "buff" spell, basically buffs your friendly targets damage while you channel, if you stop, the buff dissapears, while channeling, the casting units health goes down. All this works fine (triggered mostly) but one things missing! The Lightning Effects, i tried adding the Healing Wave effects to the actual Channeling Spell, nothing happend. Im not really sure how triggers work, seems you cant STICK it to a unit, rather to where the unit is standing, of course the casting unit doesnt move while doing this but the buff'd unit will obviously move around so not sure how to do this...

When your hero casts the spell create a dummy in his position, give it a drain life ability (its lightning effect is changed to Healing Wave), order it to cast drain life to target unit of your ability. Make the duration of drain life same as your buff spell. Make its casting range 999999. Remove the dummy from game if your hero stops channeling.

I was gonna do a spell with similar effect to yours but in my spell both Casting Unit and Targeted Unit can walk so i dont know how i can create a moving Lightning Effect between them. Maybe a periodic trigger which creates effects every x second would work.

I assume you are not JASS, your best bet is to trigger a caster that cast Finger of Death or healing wave periodically to produce the lightning effect. Stop it when the caster stops.

You can trigger the lightning effect:

• lol
  • Events
    • Unit - A unit Begins casting an ability
  • Conditions
    • (Ability being cast) Equal to something
  • Actions
    • Lightning - Create a Chain Lightning - Primary lightning effect from source (Position of (Casting unit)) to target (Target unit of ability being cast)

and you can replace the Chain Lightning effect with other lightning effects
when the unit moves you can move the lightning effect with:

• Lightning - Move (Last created lightning effect) to source (Position of (Casting unit)) and target (Position of (Target unit of ability being cast)
