Forgive Cindy Schwalb for being a little pissed. Last May, a boy pulled down her 13-year-old daughter's sweatpants in front of other students at school. She didn't believe administrators at the Hasbrouck Heights School District in New Jersey were taking it seriously...

So she showed up at a back-to-school meeting this fall looking for action. That's where she decided to lambast the principal for his inaction -- with a liberal dose of profanity. If any of you have encountered the Captain Rulebooks they're hiring as administrators these days, you likely know her frustration.

Wait... She's (possibly, probably not) going to jail because someone pulled down her daughter's pants... and she yelled at the principal for not doing anything? Makes total sense. What happened to freedom of speech? (And I don't think she's exactly infringing on anyone else's freedoms.)

FREEDOM OF SPEECH PEOPLE.

Next thing you know the government will be sending people to jail because they don't believe in Christ.

Freedom of speech means that you can say what you want, not that there will be no legal consequenses. It means there is no censure.

Freedom of speech means you can voice your opinion about how the government is ran and have the right to bring up ways to change it, it in NO WAY means you have the freedom to say what you want when you want. People are failing to understand this these days...

So I guess if I want to get someone in jail, I'll just go pull their kid's pants down.

Yeah and that's seriously wrong.
Well, She could have taken down principal pants down.. front of other people instead. lol

Yes it does; obviously if you cuss out your boss or something you'll get fired, but that doesn't make it illegal to do so. If she wasn't threatening the boss or encouraging people to do something illegal she hasn't really commit a crime.

Since when did Americans have freedom?

So far I've seen the 1st and 2nd Amendment have been loopholed in the system.

If she gets 90 days in jail for this, some of the kids at my highschool should be getting the death penalty.

Eh... we did up until people decided they really just wanted power and got themselves elected and found ways to either ignore or go around the Constitution. I think it became the next biggest thing around the time Wilson was President.

and yet I don't see the exact phrase mentioned in the article.. so wouldn't that be censure? what about a gag order - isn't that another example of censure?

besides that I never understood why people are so offended by some words.. they are just words, and not only that they are pretty common.. school-ground or not, how many kids do you think have cussed at the principle already? or just cussed in general in the school? (why should the principal be special?) but because of the disciple in the school, I bet none of them have gone to jail over it

This is just ridiculous all around.
If I was in the moms situation that principle should be thankful if he came out alive. This is the best case scenario no doubt about it and she still get's trialed for it:nuts:
You know what this tells me?
If an authority is messing with you just bend over and take it like a man:thdown:

Under certain circumstances freedoms can be limited by the government, but initially, they are unlimited. Note that censorship only happens on very, very special occasions.

The exact phrase not being mentioned does not imply censorship, the woman is still free to publish it. A gag order, however, is a form of censorship.

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done
    +1
  • The Helper The Helper:
https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/

    What do you think Tom?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
I will have to get used to this.
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
The latest news feed looks good
  • The Helper The Helper:
I would like to see it again like Ghan had it the first time with pagination though - without the pagination that view will not work but with pagination it just might...
