game cache or maybe not ?

In my campaign im making, im trying to allow my hero to move between maps. The same thing as in the Orc campaign of The Frozen Throne. How would i have my hero carry his items and stats from map to map. also how would i save the changes in each map so that you dont have to re-kill every thing once you allready have. Does game cache have any thing to do with it ? plz help !!
