Hard one, may need lua script

is there any way when I set a member from a struct to perform an action??

Like I have a
JASS:
struct asd
    integer i
endstruct

when I do this

JASS:
set asd.i=5

I want to update my multiboard (my function UpdateMultiboard(player p))

I like to try to avoid a method setI(int value) witch I set the the i and then update multiboard or put a line "call Update..." every time i set the member. I have too many members, that's why. Even operators can't help me as they need a struct first and not an integer.

EDIT: Maybe I was not clear enough. I want to call a method/function when I type this "set asd.i=5"
and then i can call the update. But only for a certain struct like asd

JASS:
struct myStruct
    integer v
    method operator value takes integer i returns nothing
        set this.v=i
    endmethod
endstruct

function foo takes nothing returns nothing
    local myStruct data=myStruct.create()
    set data.value=15
endfunction

EDIT: huhh, so you can't use operators... nvm
EDIT2: or maybe you can. Only static operators have to use the struct itself, non-static operators (check my example) can use "this"

I know already this, and I try to avoid it. I have to make 25 methods in this way

Textmacros are your friend.
JASS:
//! textmacro New_Operator takes OPERATOR,TYPE,NAME
    method operator $OPERATOR$ takes $TYPE$ i returns nothing
        set $NAME$=i
    endmethod
//! endtextmacro

Hmm... forgot textmacros, thanks.

EDIT2: or maybe you can. Only static operators have to use the struct itself, non-static operators (check my example) can use "this"
JASS:
method operator = takes integer i, integer j returns nothing
    set i = j
    call UpdateMultiboard()
endmethod
...
...
...
set asd.i=5

Will this operator run properly? Think a little more...
Even operators can't help me as they need a struct first and not an integer.
You see at the back of "=" is an integer not a struct, that's what I meant

But I think it would be very good for me if someone can do what I want exactly.

Some script that reads code, beginning from set then checks the other letters witch are my struct's name until dot and the other letters until = so the others are the variable and when all conditions are true, we set the value we read after = and call a function

It's possible to read the jass code. I want to find a way to read jass code then I can make all of these, but I need someone who knows things about lua

Dirac, that won't work:

Some script that reads code, beginning from set then checks the other letters witch are my struct's name until dot and the other letters until = so the others are the variable and when all conditions are true, we set the value we read after = and call a function

He would like to read the name of the variable from a given string, which is impossible in vJASS. Maybe LUA can do it, but to be honest I know nothing about LUA as I simply don't care how it works.

JASS:

code =
[==[local integer i
local integer b]==]

writejass("scriptname", code)

That would go into an externalblock with //! runtextmacro LUA_FILE_HEADER() at the top and //! i before every line.

You will need to use regex to read vars in your code. I suggest reading up on regex and reading up on the string library in the Lua docs.

By Luorax: but to be honest I know nothing about LUA

Me too.
I think I understood something Nest but I need a bit more advanced explanation :D

Thank you in advance

Dirac I tried that :D
JASS:

static method operator []= takes integer i, integer j returns nothing
set i=j
call UpdateMultiboard()
endmethod

someStruct[x]=y

but this is translated into
local integer i = x
local integer j = y
and then you set x = y

I don't want you to teach me lua omg.

I have this if I am right based on your previous answer

JASS:

//! runtextmacro LUA_FILE_HEADER()
//! i code =
//! i [==[local integer i
//! i local integer b]==]

//! i writejass("scriptname", code)

code = ....
with writejass it writes above code in a line inside the block I want
so what now, what this code does [==[local integer i local integer b]==] ?

Grr.... (When dog becomes angry before he barks)

I want when I save map and encounter a
JASS:
DnD[GetTriggerUnit()].Defense = 5
//or
DnD[GetTriggerUnit()].Defense = DnD[GetTriggerUnit()].Defense + 1

in my code, to add a new line after it writing
JASS:
call MultiboardUpdate()

is that possible?

I will begin studies at "Informatics - Computer Science" in 1 month, and I don't think this will be the first thing I learn.
So if you want to help me, do what I would like to do, and then from it I will understand and don't ask you again.
Because now these
a = 'alo\n123"'
a = "alo\n123\""
a = '\97lo\10\04923"'
a = [[alo
123"]]
a = [==[
alo
123"]==]
are Chinese for me

I don't know how to begin, how the heck can I do the rest?

You have run this textmacro for each variable you may use. If it's too much time for you, you better look for a new hobby.

I will use that if I won't take what I need for now, I know this option and I already did it.
But I am too curious how it can be done by the way I like.

Well, I told you twice that this is the only way to do it, because you can't refer to a variable using its name in the game, and there's no event or anything like that which fires when the value of a variable changes (except the one for reals - but you have to register the event for each variable, so you can't even be lazy there), so this is the only way that exists in vJASS.

But it's your time, go and waste it if that's what you wanna do.

    Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
    I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
    Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
    So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
    I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
    Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
    Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
