How to make a unit auto-attack friendly units

I'm making a hybrid game that is one part automatic creep attacks, one part tower defense and one part hero leveling.

I have to turn off the AI to make my "fire and forget" creeps go attack the base without doing stupid stuff. I want the creeps to just follow my commands. I still have the occasional creep returning to its spawn point even with flee off and no AI. I don't know how to fix that.

My main question is how could I make a tower that buffs my units with Inner Fire as they pass by? I've tried the two approaches I could think of with zero success. I'll explain these to the best of my ability...

I have tried to have them attack friendly targets, then use a trigger to cast inner fire on the friendly targets that get attacked. RESULT: can't get tower to fire on friendly targets at all, thus trigger doesn't get called. I can manually get my tower to attack friendly targets and then it will cast the spell, but it will not auto-attack friendly targets. Can't find a way to do that.

I know I have made this happen in the past, but can't remember how I did it. If you know how to make a unit auto attack friendly units (just checking friend or allied in the allowed targets section doesn't work) then that would be all I need. If there is no way to do that and you have a different suggestion on how to make this happen, I would greatly appreciate it.

Could you please post the trigger? That would help much, as it should be possible to make such a trigger.

    • Set TempGroup = (Units in (Playable map area) matching ((Level of Inner Fire for (Matching unit)) Not equal to 0))
    • Unit Group - Pick every unit in TempGroup and do (Actions)
      • Loop - Actions
        • Set TempPoint = (Position of (Picked unit))
        • Set TempGroup2 = (Units within 500.00 of TempPoint matching (((Matching unit) is A structure) Equal to True))
        • Unit - Order (Picked unit) to Human Priest - Inner Fire (Random unit from TempGroup2)
        • Custom script: call RemoveLocation(udg_TempPoint)
        • Custom script: call DestroyGroup(udg_TempGroup2)
    • Custom script: call DestroyGroup(udg_TempGroup)

This trigger should work and be leak-free. It doesn't take ownership into consideration, though, but as long as no creeps have Inner Fire and no creeps are structures there shouldn't be any problems apart from buffing nearby allied structures.

EDIT: Fixed a big error. Note that "((Level of Inner Fire for (Matching unit)) Equal to 0))" is wrong; the right version is above now.

Wow, my trigger was nowhere near that complex haha. I was probably trying something too simple then.

Something like that won't cause any lag in the game?
