How to start a hero with an ability pre-learned

I only need one more thing done before releasing my map. Essentially, in my map, every hero has a 'Summon Engineer' ability that lets them spawn a unit based on the Water Elemental summon spell from neutral. However, you have to put a skill point in to learn it and I want to be able to start heroes with it already learned, because otherwise heroes are too far behind.

I tried putting it as the Default Ability, which after some searching I learned just means that it starts on autocast. Is there any way to do this, preferably without triggers? Triggers would complicate this a lot because of my hero pick triggers.

You won't be able to do it without triggers, but I've set a simple one up for you (with the Paladin as an example)
Trigger:
  • Default Spell
    • Events
      • Unit - A unit Finishes training a unit
    • Conditions
      • (Unit-type of (Triggering unit)) Equal to Paladin
    • Actions
      • Hero - Learn skill for (Triggering unit): Human Paladin - Holy Light

I think this is the easiest way of doing it.

Edit: If the unit is pre-placed, you can select it and set the skill level of Summon Engineer to 1, otherwise, I don't think there's a solution except for a trigger.

I tried this like this, and it didn't work:

Trigger:
  • Ramrider red
    • Events
    • Dialog - A dialog button is clicked for Dialog
    • Conditions
    • (Clicked dialog button) Equal to DialogRamrider
    • (Triggering player) Equal to Player 1 (Red)
    • Actions
    • Unit - Create 1 Ramrider for (Triggering player) at (Center of redspawn <gen>)
    • Camera - Pan camera for (Triggering player) to (Center of redspawn <gen>) over 0.00 seconds
    • Hero - Learn skill for (Picked unit): Summon Engineer

I also tried it by setting the (Picked unit) to (Triggering unit) and neither worked.

When a unit is trained then the triggering unit is the building that trained the unit.
For the first trigger you should use (Trained Unit) instead.

You can change this now in User CP.

Do the ability need to be a hero ability?
If not, then just check it as a standard ability an add it to the heroes. Either in the object editor or via triggers.

Thanks for correcting me, Accname. I haven't done a trigger with training for a long time. Also, picked unit won't work in that trigger, as you will have to set it to "Last Created Unit". The Ramrider was never picked in any way for your trigger to work.

"Last created unit" wont work either.
Read the description of "last created unit" in the editor. It only works for units created with a trigger.

What you need is "Trained Unit"

I was referring to his trigger that created the unit from a trigger, in which case it would work.

In the other situation, you're right, though :)

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
