MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 17) — Hotaru Ferschke just wants to raise her 8-month-old son in his grandparents' Tennessee home, surrounded by photos and memories of the father he'll never meet: a Marine who died in combat a month after marrying her from thousands of miles away.
Sgt. Michael Ferschke was killed in Iraq in 2008, leaving his widow and infant son, both Japanese citizens, in immigration limbo: A 1950s legal standard meant to curb marriage fraud means U.S. authorities do not recognize the marriage, even though the military does.

What do you think should happen? I think they should give her US Residency. They got married. Legally. So... your thoughts?

(this isnt a debate forum xD)

Anyway.. this shouldnt even be a discussion, her husband died, FROM SERVING OUR COUNTRY. If congress, or whoever has to handle this, has to think about it, the american government is more jacked up the i thought

They got legally married, then I feel she should legally be allowed into the US...

If they felt she shouldn't be in the US, then they shouldn't have let them get married. End of story...

FROM SERVING OUR COUNTRY.
Don't make me laugh, the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are there on orders from private corporations. If you honestly believe that those wars have improved your country's defense in any way, you're awfully wrong.

Your also wrong. The troops are there for 1 reason, to clean up afgan and iraq.

They started out from accusations from bush about Weapons of Mass Destruction, but then once they found shit and thought that was a load of bull, they realized how F***ed up afgan and iraq is and cannot leave it as is.

I talk from experience and close friends!

God darn it, why don't they just shoot her and the kid and spare them the suffering:nuts:

I hate when authorities get's in the way of marriages. If they have been married by the army, then I think it should count much more than it would if they where married by a priest:rolleyes:

Seb!

You can say whatever you want, but he died because he did what he thought was right and tried to defend his country. I think this is a no-brainer if it comes down to a congressional or executive intervention.

As of right now, the war in Iraq and Afganistan isn't about defending America. It's about "cleaning up Iraq and Afganistan".

Speaking of wars and claiming them to be "fighting for your homeland"
Can anyone here tell me why there was a vietnam war? And it's "noble" intentions behind it?

Naturally we cannot blame soldiers for anything. They are doing what they are told and they believe they are doing what is right. But this has little relevance to the article above.

It's mainly about the marriage fraud system, and how it does not work as well as intented. The idea behind the marriage fraud system is to try to investigate "fake" marriages where the marriage's only intent was to bypass immigration laws.
Naturally this is pretty hard to verify, and it's even harder if not imposible to verify if your spouse is dead.

The only thing I can conclude is that this marriage fraud system does not work as well as intended. (But being a Japanese citizen, I doubt it would be that hard for her to get an American Visa through other means)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But in my opinion.... Once concepts such as marraige fraud exists, or when pop idols get married for one day just for fun, or when almost half of marriages end up being divorces.... I start to question the merit of marriage.

does being married mean anything in the 21st century? Or is it just a handy way to save money through taxes and immigrate to other countries?

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
