Ordering a unit to cast a spell when a unit is targetted

I've been toying around with this for a bit now...

I have a unit that casts a spell targetting a unit.
I then want another unit to target the same unit with a different spell.
How do I do this via triggers?

Simplified:
Caster1 casts Spell1 on Unit1
In Response
Caster2 casts Spell2 on Unit1

They're both in range and have enough mana to cast their respective spells.

Umm... I think if you made the effect Unit 1 is under effect of spell, condition the range, and then the action be unit 2 casts spell on triggering unit.

I'll have to look at it sometime, but that would be the basic structuring I believe.

Is it a random unit that's close, or like a hero or unique unit or what?
 
No, any unit on the map can be targetted. It's a hero casting a spell with two effects, the second effect is cast by a dummy unit.

So I'm looking for unit has buff/effect, cast other spell.

Wait... I'm sorry that confused me.

So are you trying to make it so that the spell will have two effects when cast (like you cast it, and it hits them with lightning then freezes), or make it that when it is cast, a different unit will come over and cast a different spell (like it's cast, the enemy is hit with lightning, then a different unit freezes)? Sorry for my bad examples, first things i thought of.
 
Uh, it's like, the hero casts storm bolt on a unit and the dummy unit casts slow on the same unit.
 
Oh that simplifies it. If you wanted, you could just make the ability a dummy, and then make a trigger with an event [player casts ability], then make multiple actions that affect the targeted unit.
 
Am I looking under the wrong section? I thought something like;
Event
Staller casts a spell
Conditions
(ability being cast) equal to Halt
Event
???

Am I on the right track? That's what I've got but I can't find an event that fits.
 
Yeah. You need to use actions, though, not events. I'm assuming it's a typo, but I always do that where I'm trying to finish the trigger and hit Event instead of Action and go through the list and I'm like WTF NONE OF THESE WORK FOR ME. Pisses me off....

Anyway, yes that's the right track, the actions you want would be under Units I think, not entirely sure though. I'll have to check sometime since I haven't done triggers like that for a long time.

What you could also do is make it so that it throws the storm bolt, then I think on a lot of the abilities you can add in other effects so you might be able to put slow right into that ability instead of dealing with possibly leaky triggers. I forget, again, though.
 
I don't think you can mix spells/spell effects. I have tried, but not in depth.
Yeah, I meant action.

I'm annoyed there's no events like 'Unit is attacked' or 'Unit is hit by spell'

I think there is. I'll take a look at the editor right now and see what I come up with.
 
All I've found is 'Issue order targetting unit' which has almost everything I want, except it only has some specific spells. So I'm going to work around it by making spell copies and use the replace the real ones etc etc. Thanks for the help.
 
That's what I was trying to think of I think. I knew there was something... sorry I couldn't point you straight to it, I haven't had to make anything like that for a while, all I've been doing recently is make my systems work for Apocalypse.

Anyway, if you are using Storm Hammer or whatever it is, you can buffs to it I think, just select slow whatever buff you need to it. I think it is under Stats - Buffs.

  • Enrage Cast
    • Events
      • Unit - A unit Starts the effect of an ability
    • Conditions
      • (Ability being cast) Equal to Halt
    • Actions
      • Unit - Create 1 Dummy of the Map for (Owner of (Triggering unit)) at (Position of (Triggering unit)) facing Default building facing degrees
      • Unit - Add Halt Slow (Dummy) to (Last created unit)
      • Unit - Set level of Halt Slow (Dummy) for (Last created unit) to (Level of Halt for (Triggering unit))
      • Unit - Order (Last created unit) to Human Sorceress - Slow (Target unit of ability being cast)
      • Unit - Add a 5.00 second Generic expiration timer to (Last created unit)


Halt Slow (Dummy) is a Slow based skill. Dummy of the Map is a dummy unit which will cast the slow skill. In issue order actions there are certain spells like you said. So when you order it to cast Human Sorceress - Slow, it will cast a spell that is based on Slow. You should read a lesson about Dummy Units and spells, it'll better.
