Question on ExtProtect...

I'm guessing that the program (ExtProtect, in case some fool forgot to read the subject line but just saw my name and decided to open it) only stops the map being opened in World Edit., not Warcraft III, but I thought I should make sure, just in case.

Correct. The whole idea behind having a map-protector is to stop your map being opened up in the editor, while allowing it to be played by anyone.

cool thought so. Just thought I'd make sure (best to be on the safe side, after all)...

while ur here, a couple more questions, darg...

firstly, and once more just making sure, although i'm pretty certain I know the answer: Skinning a model is going to involve importing files, yes? so best to wait 'til I have Frozen Throne?

Secondly: If I have imported music, and I send my map to someone else, will they be able to play the music? or is it directly linked to the files imported? (once again, I think I know the answer)...

1) It does, but you can safely do this now. Perhaps I should have been a little more specific before. Importing DATA files now may cause some problems when converting your map to TFT format. Importing GRAPHICS files is ok to do at any time.

Skins are in blp format, try extracting some blp files which don't look like buttons. I'll see if I can post the program I use to convert blp files into tga files, for viewing in graphics programs.

2) Imported music physically imports the music into your map. Thus your map is a self-contained archive, and can be used by anyone. If you're not sure about this yourself, try importing some music in the sound editor, and then save your map and open it up with WinMPQ. You'll find that your music is found in the directory "war3imported\".

Exellent...
Do they all need to be used together?

does what need to be used together? the programs? no don't think so. all you have to do is

- extract a blp file and convert it to tga

- edit it as you please

- convert it back to blp format and stick it in your map

So if I extract a file (say, skin for high elf male) as a .blp, then use er....image extractor? to convert to .tga, then paint it, then use the same program to change it back, then put it in my map, will it make all high elf males in my map have that skin?

there may b many more question on this...

yep you got it! although i think image extractor does the extraction of the file for you.

wc3 viewer looks like an easier program to use, I just looked at it then and it seems really intuitive to figure out.

note: i've never done skinning myself before, I am just explaining things from various pieces of information that I have read and pieced together. Plus I'm using logic to figure a few things out.

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
