Raising and lowering doodads!?

Ive been reading a load of terraining tutorials, and alot of them suggest using ctrl + pg up/ pg dn to raise and lower doodads, but when i tried it, it did nothing! also, alot of them use doodads within other doodads, this doesnt seem to work for me either, thanks for any help!

EDIT: problem solved, you have toSELECT the doodad first... and the placing inside is to do with pathing, no pathing, and it goes inside easy as pie.
