Targeted triggered spell, how should I?

Ok, i'm working on a targeting spell, based on warden's Shadow Strike.

And i want to add an effect to the target. What event should I take so that when spell reaches target, the effect start?

I tried with finished the efffect of an ability and is casting an ability but it does not work how i want.

What event is the best to take?

Do distance/time to figure out the speed, wait that long, and add it then. This can cause bugs if the unit moves while it's being casted. The missile will reach but the effect can be early or late.

Base the spell off channel and have it create a dummy unit which periodically moves to the target. Each time its move check the area around it for the dummy unit. If the target is found kill/remove the dummy unit and have a new dummy unit cast shadow strike on the unit + what ever effects you want.

You can set effects in the ability editor(object editor ability tab).

i recommend this idea

Do what he says

create a dummy.. move him to the target.. Then check when he is in range. Remove the dummy. then add ur special effect

Yeah looks like it's the best way!

You can set effects in the ability editor(object editor ability tab).

I want triggered effect with a target unit, not abiility effect... >.>

Not sure if this works...

Event: Unit casts an ability
Condition: Ability = Shadow Strike
Action:
Set Variable Unit = Target unit of ability being cast
Turn on Trigger xxx

Trigger xxx
Event: Every 0.3 seconds
Condition: Variable Unit has buff Shadow Strike = True
Action:
Whatever effect you want
Turn off this trigger

Its not MUI, if you want that I think just make Variable Unit an Array of 1000 and make an integer variable for the array number, add +1 to that every time and for trigger xxx remove the condition and do like for Loop Integer (Variable Int -1 to Variable Int +1) If Variable Unit [Int A] has buff shadow strike = true then apply effect.

Not sure if this works/if you still want help with your problem. I think the other way is a bit complicated and also not MUI.

This should work, it is leakproof and MUI
Set X to 'Art - Missile Speed' of your spell in the object editor.
Set Y to the desired special effect.

Code:
Events:
 - Unit starts the effect of an ability
Conditions:
 - Ability being cast is equal to Shadow Strike
Actions:
 - set temp_point1 = position of casting unit
 - set temp_point2 = position of target of ability being cast
 - set temp_real = (distance between temp_point1 and temp_point2) / X 
 - Custom script:   call RemoveLocation (udg_temp_point1)
 - Custom script:   call RemoveLocation (udg_temp_point2)
 - wait temp_real seconds
 - set temp_point1 = position of target of ability being cast
 - create special effect at temp_point1 using Y
 - destroy last created special effect
 - Custom script:   call RemoveLocation (udg_temp_point1)

    Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though

    I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work

    Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm

    So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man

And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.

    Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
