Sci/Tech Time Travel doesn't need a Time Machine Says Scientist

Could all our blunders be reversed, our failings eliminated? Perhaps so, if an Israeli scientist's research is to be believed. With the help of Prof. Amos Ori, we might just be able to go back and stop the screw-ups from happening in the first place.

Ori, a physicist from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, has come up with what he says are practical solutions to overcome the hindrances that experts have long regarded as stopping us from traveling back in time.

In a paper published in the latest issue of the Physical Review journal, the scientist offers a theoretical model, based on mathematical equations describing conditions that, if established, could help lead to the development of a time machine of sorts. But rather than building an actual device, Ori explains that "the machine is space-time itself."

Time travel research is based on bending space-time so far that the time lines actually warp back on themselves to form a loop.

"We know that bending does happen all the time, but we want the bending to be strong enough and to take a special form where the lines of time make closed loops," explains Ori. "We are trying to find out if it is possible to manipulate space-time to develop in such a way."

I can't say im fond of this idea. Just because you can, does not mean you should.

Ori's been pushing this method for years now, and it hasn't gotten any more plausible over time. You know on Star Trek when whichever ship it is this year has to go back in time to save the whales, or fight the robots, or save the robots? And they always do it by cranking up the warp drive to 11 and zipping around the Sun?

That's pretty much what Amos Ori is proposing. And he really isn't thinking about it any more deeply than the Star Trek writers, because of course we don't have a warp drive, and it's not like Ori's got the blueprints for one in his basement. Essentially, he's just taken the plot to a couple of movies, re-written it in Physics-talk, and published it in a few scientific journals.

Plus, his model suffers the same setback as most of the other "time machine" models: you can only take the machine back to the point when it was first turned on.

So don't worry, WastedSavior. It's more likely that particle accelerators are going to turn the world into a black hole, than that we'll be zipping around the timestream like maniacs. :D

Changing one event in history will change many. This is just asking for bad side effects.

Jerk stole my idea. You dont need a time machine to time travel if so then why the hell will it be 5 in an hour?

If someone went back in time, wouldnt he lose the memories of the original timeline?(along with everyone else) therefore meaning noone would know if they went back in time.
(you cant remember something that never happened)

What about the Grand Father Paradox? IF you go back in time and shoot your Grand Father before your parents were born, you really couldn't exsist. So...yeah ><

so, if you shot your own grandfather, you wouldnt exist, meaning you would not have shot your grandfather, meaning the event never happened, meaning he was still alive, meaning you existed, wow: thats a never ending loop.

The mind wobbles

You know in movies, where a character says something chilling that sticks? Well, this is my chilling sticky moment.

There are some things man should not tamper with. Time Travel is one of the biggest ones. Can you imagine what one human could screw up? The amount of damage we could create WAY outweighs the amount of good we could do.

In a way.. we are time machines. Traveling through time, at 1 second per second.
