Use triggers to set an item to have no charges left?

How can this be done?

The trigger that sets an item's charges says that setting it to 0 gives the item unlimited charges.

Why not just make 2 items, one that is charged, one that is unlimited?

Make a item that is an exact copy except it does not have the ability that reqs charges and have a trigger switch the items. It will now look like it has been used up.

No problem

And why is it so much extra work? Copypasta the item and give it an editorsuffix, (nocharges) would be enough, and then design the trigger.

Anyhoo, I shouldn't talk about how hard it is until I've tried it myself. Hope your map turns out good and glad I could help

It's a ton of extra work to make every item that is clickable have another item that is not tied alongside it .. having to keep track of all the item IDs and what not

It's actually no problem to set an item's charges to 0.
The condition would be that it does not start at 0.
I.e. it needs at least 1 in the object editor.
You probably also don't want it to perish, otherwise it might just disappear...
