Not really

Gas=Gold
Minerals=Trees

Exact same concept :)

They work pretty much exactly the same.

They work pretty much exactly the same.

lets see what else works exactly the same then

then minerals are spread across 80% of the map and actually block vespene gysers at some points,

the basic resource for training workers and basic fighters is gas,

and some races can harvest gas without the need for any special buildings, while for others the special buildings either protect the workers or act as their own drop-off point

you can even harvest minerals with your basic fighting units,

and you can get gas by killing units

and of course most of all your not forced to have your base in any of the 12 pre-defined places, since you can gather resources from anywhere

^Yes gas is the secondary resource so that changes it up a little bit. But that's really nitpicking, most games have different core gameplay that you actually notice a lot. I like the wc resource system better. Though AoE wins in the end.

Starcraft 2 is more similar to warcraft 3 than warcraft 2 is to warcraft 3.

Total War and Warcraft are pretty different :p

Real Time Strategy games aren't the same, theres a few quite unique ones.

There is not much difference in the general concept, I have not played the newer Total War games but in the first one the only difference was that you did not have an empire.

The basic concept of RTS is that you use strategy to conquer your enemies in real time you know;)

The problem with that is that in WoW you use strategy when you're in a raid, so WoW also fits into the rts section, as well as the mmorpg section. rts is really broad.

Well, in wow you do not have an army, but it is true what you say that it could be considered as an RTS due to that.

Real-time strategy (RTS) games are a genre of computer wargames which do not progress incrementally in turns.[1] Brett Sperry is credited with coining the term to market Dune II.[2][3]

A wargame is a game that deals with military operations of various types, real or fictional.

According to wikipedia, you must be a war game in order to be a RTS, therefore you would have to qualify WoW as a wargame first to qualify it as a RTS, and does WoW really deal with military operations as much as it deals with 'go kill that dragon'?

There are those battlegrounds thingies, but I don't think that they can be accounted for as an argument in that discussion.

I wouldn't classify WoW as a war game, as it doesn't have to do with the military.

WoW is an MMORPG... Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

MMORPG: Massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) is a genre of computer role-playing games in which a very large number of players interact ...

RPG: A role-playing game (RPG; often roleplaying game) is a game in which the participants assume the roles of fictional characters. ...

^so?

I thought that wow had pvp with alliance vs horde. Is that not war?

It is, but the players are not controlling the wars. You do the same exact thing in basically every FPS out there but you still don't call them RTS games for that ;)
You need to have control over an army or it won't be an RTS game.

I think a war game is more about, well, war.

No offense, but you have no idea what you're talking about.

Wow is not a RTS, in WoW its a RPG, since you control a single person while fighting in a war, of which you custimize.

Its not a RTS

No, WoW is an MMO, not an RPG, because you interact with a lot of players.

Actually, WoW is neither an RPG nor an MMO, because it is a fantasy game.

See how your logic fails here?

No, it doesn't.
It's an MMORPG, based on a Fanatasy theme.

I was just saying the word rts is only vaguely related to the 'real' meaning of real time strategy, which you would think would include anything that was real time and involved strategy (it's hard to play any game without a strategy).
I am well aware that Wow is considered a mmorpg, because that explains what it is way better.

Do you know how idiotic that statement is?
MMO means massively multiplayer online game

And its a MMORPG, RPG is roleplaying game

A RPG is a RPG, the only difference with MMORPG is its strictly a online game, where you interact with other players. But oh wait, its STILL a RPG. When a RPG is categorized as a MMORPG, it means its a online only RPG, where instead of joining different games online, its all just one world, and you can interact with other players, and meet new people ingame, and even play with them while playing the RPG.

Finally theres

WoW is neither an RPG nor an MMO, because it is a fantasy game.

I hope thats a joke, because most RPG games are fantasy games >.>

Its not a RTS, period. You don't control armies, you control a single character of which you can customize to be stronger, while doing quests (RPG...). In RTS games, you control armies, and in most cases, gather up resources, build up forces, and attack, defeating your opponents.

MMORPG is a subgenre of both MMO and RPG. That is a fact.

Not sure how that relates to my post but ok.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
