without further ado, I bring to you:

Warcraft Poker!


What is is exactly, you ask?

Well, it is going to be a 10 player Texas Holdem poker game with plenty of options.


Can you name some of options?

Well, for starters, a option to sit in/out of the game play, if you want to take a break,
a No-Limit, Pot-Limit and Limited game option, and possibly, a short tutorial teaching poker's basics.

What does No-Limit, or NL for short and the other game "options" mean?

Is there any due date when it is going to be released?

What do you reckon? Year 2008.


Anything else I should know?

I like to wear pink underwear.

Ah, great, I like poker. The only game to play in the small hours. So, any more information? How far did you get? How will it work (how will the cards look for example)? Will there be pandas? Will they wear pink underwears?

Well, the idea is there.

Getting my fried computer back from repairs soon enough, too, so I could start working on it immediately.

I am going to use imported images for cards.

It will look very realistic.

Will there be pandas?

Possibly, because I am planning to implement a system, which allows you to choose your "characters" appearance at the poker table.

Nothing special, for aesthetic purpose only.

Will they wear pink underwears?

Pandas are shy by nature so I fear that is a no no.


Do think about, any ideas how to add special twists are also welcomed and possibly rewarded.

Just wondering, how are you planning to keep players away from seeing other players' cards? And how will betting work, chat messeges, abilities, or...?

Also, I think it might be cool to add some kind of random events during the game, that has nothing to do with regular poker. For example, if you win, you got another 100$, but only in this round, or something like that.

You can make all the cards abilities, and give abilities(cards) to the player's heroes, at least that's how it's done in the other map.

I didn't like it do. Didn't know how to play, and it was the first round or w/e, and I clicked randomly, and the other guys kicked me cause I won somehow...

Poker is a game of bluff (yes, no?) have you thought about how to incorporate this into the game, would my pink underwear turn darker after i'd sweat it through or snap under the pressure.

"GetLocalPlayer()" is my dearest of friends.

I am planning to display the cards like so:

You will see only your two cards plus the community deck, the cards which everybody have.

Other players' cards will not be viewable, only the bottom side will.

And how will betting work, chat messeges, abilities, or...?

Calling a bet, checking or raising will actually be very easy:

If it is your turn, you have to click "call", "fold", "check" or "raise" buttons(*).

"Call" button will call the last bet made by another player.
"Fold" button will fold you from the game, if you do not to wish to continue.
"Check" button skips your turn if there is no bet to call.
"Raise" button will give you further options - how much you want to raise.

I had a great idea for the poker tutorial:

The game will automatically detect whether is multiplayer or singleplayer.

If it is singleplayer, you are given an option to play a tutorial against bots and later, if successfully finished it, you can play more games, against an AI.

maybe you can set your avatars animation, that can be sort of good for bluffing, but if people just kept the same animation, it'd be boring.

The biggest problem I have with Azeroth Poker is that the gameplay is not engaging because there is no risk to large bets (i.e. $200 in WC3 money is about the same as mortgaging Baltic Avenue when you have hotels on Boardwalk).

That's a possibility. I'll keep that in mind.

However, it would be more difficult to spot a bluff without it, thus, adding excitement to the game.

I am planning to add a voting system before the game starts (not before each hand starts!) to allow the players to choose the size of the starting chip stack.

The size of bets/antes etc. will be adjusted accordingly, proportionally, to the starting chip stack.

I will make sure the game stays risky (especially if you don't know what you're doing) no matter the bet sizes, starting money etc.

Just like in real poker.

That would work. After a players turn (before it ends) you can ask him/her how confident they are of winning, etc.

But no bluff would make it more exciting.

And the tutorial would be excellent.

I had a brainstorm!

Why not to use cards, which are Warcraft-styled?

I mean, for example, a Human Knight instead of Jacks etc.

Then may I give you some ideas for the Jack, Queen, King, Ace, and Joker cards?

Jack - Human Knight
Queen - Jaina
King - Mountain King, bigger size (with 'alternateex' animation if needed)
Ace - dunno. Prophet? Paladin?
Joker - Murloc

Jokers don't exist in texas holdem. are you going to show peoples chip amount by like doing how much gold they have? or actually use units as "chips" different colours so other players can tell how much money each player has?
