A small math problem

The mother is 21 years older than her son. 6 years later, the child is 5 times younger than his mom. Where is the father? Must be solved mathematically.

Before you start yelling "this is crap, it has no solution" I suggest you atleast try and solve the system. If you're smart enough, you'll get it!

Since over 6 years the difference between the mother and her's son will be still 21, there is no way so the child could be 5 younger than his mom. So I suppose that the first mother is not the same as the second one and the father is the first child. Correct?

let x be the son and y be the mother. if "The mother is 21 years older than her son." then y-21 = x. from the second statement, we deduce that y-45 = 5x. if we solve the simuntaneous equation, we find out that x = -6.

which means that the equation does not work out, as the child cannot have a negative age. which leaves one conclusion: the 2 cases are unrelated, and therefore the "fatehr" has 2 sons born to 2 different women. and so, the answer to "Where is the father?" is unknown, but since he has 2 families, we can guess that he is having sex with a 3rd woman in some place.

y-21 = x
y-15 = 5(x+6)
y-15 = 5x+30
y-45 = 5x
------
y - x = 21
y - 5x = 45
4x = -24
x = -6

the son still hasnt been born but is in the.. is... a "sperm"

sense it dosnt say you cant find out the future. disreguard the son that is 21 years younger and think of the baby yet to be born.

It will simply be y + 6.

Yes he sounds smart, but I doubt in his/ her math skills. Where he took that y-15 ?
I try to solve this one on my own too and his/ her math confuses me ( I hope that he/ she made flaw).

Here is mine solution or then wrong one...
Child is x years old.
Mother is then x+ 21.
After six years- child is 6+ x and mother is x+ 27.
so child should be after 6 years 5 times yonger ( Dunno how t ospell it )
(6+ x) + (x+ 27) = (6+ x) / 5
^ this should be the right math for answer lol... I make here progress...
To get rid of that nasty /5 I will do *5 wit both sides
(30+ 5x) + (5x + 135) = (30+ 5x)

Saw that I can cut from both sides (30+ 5x)
so it will be:
5x + 135
and X will be
5x = -135 | /5
x= -27
and once more -27/ 5 was -5.4 (years old)
Ok folks time to see if that is right... lol ( I think I have skipped math lessons)
If it has to be solved with some kind of math formula and only with that formula then you have lead us to dead end- nice task, I could not solve it then lol. Don' t let me into shop coz I don' t know math lol.
EDIT: I forgot to do the check...
-5.4+ 21= 15.6 thats sick...
after six years mom is +6.
15.6+ 6= 21.6
now kid should be 5 times yonger.
21.6/ 5= 4.32

And combined them yet again to find the result.

Hm... yeah. It does, of course, produce some result... but, not really the correct one.

after 6 years, the mother is still 21 yrs older than her son, and also 5 times as old, so..
y=x+21
y+6=5(x+6)=x+27
y+6=5x+30=x+27

5x+30=x+27
4x+3=0
4x=-3
x=-0.75
y=20.25
/\/\
6 yrs later..
x+6=5.25
y+6=26.25
26.25/5.25=5

ok. -0.75 YEARS, aka 9 months. which means the mothers egg n the fathers sperm juz fertilised, and baby juz came into existance. which means that the fatehr is still on top of the mother making love to her.
