Can units (not structures) use roots?

I am trying to make an ability that makes the unit go into roots, uses the ability, then comes out of it. I am using the Ancient of Lore model to hopefully make the rooting look nice. I based the unit off of the Mountain King so that is would be a hero and I would have to change less.

Now then, I made the ability Roots (Ancients) into a hero ability. The effects are, when the ability is learned, the unit goes into the Night Elf building in construction animation. I still have control of my unit, and can up root. When up root is used, however, I cannot root again. Currently I have not made the triggers to activate the ability upon rooting due to this issue.

What I need help with is getting a unit to use the ability Root and go to the rooted version of an Ancient of Lore. I should be able to handle the rest on my own.

As well, so I don't have to make a new post, is there a way to make an abilities portrait just a black square? I can make it green, but i want black.

I've seen this in, I believe, a DOTA map. The unit using roots anyway. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Try setting this on a hero:

Art - Required animation names : alternate
Art - Required animation names - Attachments : large

Just use "Bear form" or "Crow form" or any thing that can change instead, cause the root ability is a bit... hard to work around.
Just use bear form instead, and then you can choose the two units you want and make one building and another not, or both buildings or both units or...whatever

My friend gave a hero crow form yesterday, but whenever he got out of the form he was reset to lvl 1, so i dont think that would work

For morphing effects use only Chaos abilities.

Alright then, no root. Bear form will work im sure, i'll try it out. Anyone know then about the ability portrait being completely black (as if no ability is there)?
