Alright, im making a map based in the Age of Discovery. It focuses on the West European countries colonization of the Americas and Africa. However, the game will start in the Late Middle Ages (1350) and kind of fast forwards into 1492. This leaves me with some problems.
Because the game starts in the late middle ages, it kind of leaves France in the height of the 100 Year's War when it was being raped by England and Burgandy. To be fair to france, im not letting the outcome of the war be determined by the players, the war will be staged. Think of it more like a interactive cinematic than anything else. To make it fun for the player my question is, in what way would the war be interesting to you?
My second problem is this. Should players be able to build cities or capture and upgrade pre-existing cities? The thing about building cities is that it fits with the colonization theme but requires gold mines for players to gain income. The nice thing about pre-built cities is that they kind of give a greater depth of territory and income. On the other hand, how would you colonize America then?
My third problem is heroes. The game will include many important figures that lived during the time periods the game covers (Ex, Joan of Arc, Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama). The problem with this is, not everybody lives forever, especially when the game covers about 500 years of time. So should heroes die after a certain amount of time? Should heroes be able to level and gain their abilities or just be a regular unit and have pre-set abilities? Should Heroes be trainable or just spawn at a certain time?
Alternatives to any of these ideas would be nice Be honest you guys, i want this game to be fun, not historically boring.
