I fought a long time for this thing until I found the answer. I got the basics from: http://www.wc3sear.ch/viewtopic.php?t=734
All that "Sopho" has written there in WC3Sear is correct BUT he don't mention anything about alpha channel. Yes, if you think you have already tried everything and it SHOULD work - the problem is probably the alpha channel.
I don't have a smallest idea what it is but this is the way you can put it on your loading screen .tgas:
1) Download and extract/install Warcraft 3 Viewer.
2) Convert all four loading screen pictures from *.* -> *.blp
3) WC 3 Viewer should now tell you that: "These pictures don't have alpha channel" or something like that and "Do you want to add it?" Click YES.
4) Convert all four loading screen pictures from *.blp -> *.tga.
5) If you ever imported the ones without alpha channel: remove them now.
6) Import the new loading screen .tgas.
7) It should work now.
