General Disney to acquire Marvel Entertainment for $4B

Walt Disney Co. said on Monday it has reached a deal to acquire comic book titan Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in stock and cash. In a statement, Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger said "adding Marvel to Disney's unique portfolio of brands provides significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation." Marvel shareholders would receive a total of $30 per share in cash plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own.

Disney isn't stupid.

They're not going to spend 4billion dollars so they can change marvel, make people hate it, and loose all the profit. They're still going to have the same workers, the same artists, the same people. All thats different is the new location of funding sources. Sure, they may make some stupid new comics, but I highly doubt Disney is stupid enough to change comics that are already making millions...

Stupid? Farrrrr from it! They're making BANK off of both of those shows/characters/bands, so I don't see how you think they're stupid. Just because you don't personally like them, doesn't make them stupid. I don't like them either, but from a business standpoint, they're far from stupid...

Thats an opinion. People like different things, they have to cater to all types of shows to get a good profit. Just because you don't like them, doesn't mean others don't.

New CEO's, new agendas, new perspective. There is no way to tell how much they will or won't do. It isn't so much that they just change things to fit their already prospering industry. More along the lines of product testing in the key demographics and a few outsourcing to the less lucrative ones. It wouldn't be the first time a huge corporation fucks up like this. Coke Classic should be a good enough example.

Exactly, and you can't compare disney shows with those. Most of disney's shows are made for kids, thus you can't go comparing it to sitcoms like "Fresh prince from bell air" since it was not made for kids of the same age.

I for one won't like it saying "Disney Marvel" on a spiderman comic

But on another thing, I think that it will increase the value of all old "just marvel" comics, atleast if they change the titles

Disney isn't as financially sound as it once was, but it's a bloody empire. They didn't get to be that kind of empire by changing things to make people hate them. They make movies people love, be it adults or children.

They're going to try to make Marvel something people will love and buy. Not destroy it. There's no profit in destroying a titan in the comic industry...
