Icon recoloring

I want to recolor an icon but the problem is... I don't know how ^^ . I found tutorials how to create his own icons , but none show how to recolor one already made. Someone know a tutorial or can explain me how to recolor an icon from Wc3?

The whole icon? Hue and saturation, just be sure you don't select the border.

Parts of it? Select the parts and use hue and saturation (if it is dark or light, that is black or white obviously, use the colorize option).

This can either be done with GIMP or Photoshop.

http://www.gimp.org/ is free, you can get a Photoshop trial (CS4, CS3 or CS2) at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/, for getting the icons, if you want the standard ones, use an MPQ extractor (found on http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/tools.php) and use it to extract the War3.mpq and War3x.mpq, then go to their folders that say ReplaceableTextures > Command Buttons > Your Icon.

I tried to download the CS4 tutorial but it don't want to work -.- and how to use mpq extractor?

Well, then go with GIMP, to extract, simply right-click the War3.mpq folder and open it with your MPQ extractor (using a mac so I have a different program obviously, but it should be pretty similarly) it should open it and you get a folder, there you look up the RepaceableTextures folder and go to CommandButtons and find your icon.

Open it whit mpq extractor... eh there is not program in the mpq extractor only a ton of folder

You opened the War3.mpq? Then you get the folder War3, right? There you can find all the icons, skins and all other things you could possibly want.

1. I downloaded the program : MPQ Extractor 1.0
2. I extract the MPQ Extractor 1.0 into a folder
3. I open the folder
4. I see two folder, _MACOSX and MPQ Extractor.app,
5. both of them got a ton of folder, which most of them contain no program

edit: its RMPQExtractor 1.0 or MPQExtractor 1.0???

Edit3: Ah , after searching for a while , i found how recoloring whit Gimp and extract whit wc3 viewer
