local variables in GUI

I learned some new things in GUJass.

I use locals to make spells MUI. Also, to resume the coding in GUI (and not write a custom script every time I use the local) I came up with this:

Code:
custom script: local unit unit1
custom script: local integer number
custom script: set udg_temp_unit = unit1
custom script: set udg_temp_number = number1
Use temp_unit and temp_number in all the actions I want to...
wait 5 seconds
custom script: set udg_temp_unit = unit1
custom script: set udg_temp_number = number1
Use them further...
custom script: set unit1 = null

I HATE JASS! But I love locals :p

I just make spells in GUI, convert them to JASS and convert the globals with locals.

Then null the locals.

Works fine for me.

This is actually how I started learning Jass :D ,that GUI converted Jass just looks so ugly that soon you want to start cleaning it and using natives instead of BJs.
Naming your functions also makes code easier to read, and when you get NewGen and vJass, you can start to write globals inside your code.
Its great! , no more any use for useless udg_something variables and that stupid variable editor.

I HATE JASS! But I love locals
locals are great, but when you learn how to use structs you are gonna love them even more. :)

Dont hate Jass, without it we could edit wc3 at all :(

EDIT. No Jass, no GUI.

It is better to use native functions instead of BJs in most cases, because it saves some useless function calls. And some BJs contain some actions you dont really want to do.

Compare this:
JASS:
native CreateUnit takes player id, integer unitid, real x, real y, real face returns unit

and this:

JASS:
function CreateNUnitsAtLocFacingLocBJ takes integer count, integer unitId, player whichPlayer, location loc, location lookAt returns group
return CreateNUnitsAtLoc(count, unitId, whichPlayer, loc, AngleBetweenPoints(loc, lookAt))
endfunction

function CreateNUnitsAtLoc takes integer count, integer unitId, player whichPlayer, location loc, real face returns group
    call GroupClear(bj_lastCreatedGroup)
    loop
        set count = count - 1
        exitwhen count < 0
        call CreateUnitAtLocSaveLast(whichPlayer, unitId, loc, face)
        call GroupAddUnit(bj_lastCreatedGroup, bj_lastCreatedUnit)
    endloop
    return bj_lastCreatedGroup
endfunction

function CreateUnitAtLocSaveLast takes player id, integer unitid, location loc, real face returns unit
    if (unitid == 'ugol') then
        set bj_lastCreatedUnit = CreateBlightedGoldmine(id, GetLocationX(loc), GetLocationY(loc), face)
    else
        set bj_lastCreatedUnit = CreateUnitAtLoc(id, unitid, loc, face)
    endif

    return bj_lastCreatedUnit
endfunction

native CreateUnitAtLoc takes player id, integer unitid, location whichLocation, real face returns unit

native CreateBlightedGoldmine takes player id, real x, real y, real face returns unit

First one is native, second one is GUI action: CreateUnit

Looks like Google fixed whatever mistake that made the recipes on the site go crazy and we are no longer trending towards a recipe site lol - I don't care though because it motivated me to spend alot of time on the site improving it and at least now the content people are looking at is not stupid and embarrassing like it was when I first got back into this like 5 years ago.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Plus - I have a pretty bad ass recipe collection now! That section of the site is 10 thousand times better than it was before

We now have a web designer at my job. A legit talented professional! I am going to get him to redesign the site theme. It is time.

I got one more day of community service and then I'm free from this nonsense! I polished a cop car today for a funeral or something I guess

They also were digging threw old shit at the sheriff's office and I tried to get them to give me the old electronic stuff, but they said no. They can't give it to people because they might use it to impersonate a cop or break into their network or some shit? idk but it was a shame to see them take a whole bunch of radios and shit to get shredded and landfilled

How come you're so into recipes lately? Never saw this much interest in this topic in the old days of TH.net

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am not big on the recipes I am just promoting them - I use the site as a practice place promoting stuff

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences
