The background and effects are really amazing, the text is really bad. You should make mario stand out more.

it makes it look like hes got some kinda tumor

Also, it needs some depths and more effects. Also, that star thingy wave looks weird because it looks flat. But that's the renderer's fault.

Rainbow is cool but doesn't really seem to fit him, at least through my perspective.

Not bad, but there are many flaws. In the first one, I don't reaally like the blue streak.
The second one is good, but the font ruins it for me.

That is the renderer's fault. That render is a bad one, there are a few other ones that were cut more nicely. The one you used isn't so bad, just in comparison to the other premium cuts. The one you used just has a bit of flaws.

Also, the text should probably be orange or something that matches the sig colors.

Some one in BC (bare canvas, a crew on Gamerenders [GR]) made a text tut and it is free. I think it was recent, in the graphics tutorials forum.
