My computer disconnects from my network...

When I leave my computer idle for about half an hour it disconnects from my wireless network. My bro's computer doesn't do this and it's not signal strength.

Is it:
a) My local settings?
b) My router's settings?
c) Something else...?

Help as soon as possible. I want to keep a bot running overnight on B.net but no can do with this disconnecting nonsense.

BTW some specs:
Windows XP Home Ed
Linksys router (forget which model)
Built-in WLAN card
Firewall's off, no encryption on the network, ports are forwarded.

Any chance some of your devices put to sleep as energy saving measures? In that case, check your power settings.

The power settings are all set to never hibernate, standby, shut down, etc. The screen saver is off. The wireless card had its power saving settings at "disabled" but I changed it to "high performance" fo good measure.

Try these things

Right then im assuming that your using the most uptodate firmware for the router (and the wireless card that they offer)....if not update that.

Also have you tried putting in a wired ethernet connection in for the night and see if that stays connected to the network.....

Also it could be that the router is packing up...i know it sounds stupid but i have come across problems like that so it may be a good idea if you can to try another router

1) It's never updated the driver for the card, but it's never needed to. The router works fine on the other computers. It's just mine.

2) I will try that tonight if I don't find another solution to see if it's my wireless or not.

3) Again, works for other computers, not mine.

Also, I used to leave torrents running all night, and it'd be fine. It's only done this since I got Stealthbot, so I'm wondering if it's a Stealthbot bug.

another thing just qiuckly is to check if you can still connect to the routers ip address after it disconnects.

It could be the bot......stranger things have happened

Yes, I can. I reconnect to the network and it works fine.

I'm thinking it's the bot... I posted this problem up on stealthbot.net and I'm gonna see if it's the bot or not.

However it'd be an anomaly because my bro's bot doesn't do that.

A slim chance, but:

- go to Device Manager.
- go to the Properties of your wireless adapter.
- go to Power management tab of that window.
- see if "Allow computer to turn off device to save power" is checked.

Thanks Duwen for the help but I doubt it'll work; that option is only available on my ethernet and not on my WLAN card. I turned it off on the ethernet anyways but I don't think it matters.

However I've discovered something. This only happens if I close the lid of my laptop and leave it idle. If the lid stays open it works fine.

However my button for the lid simply turns the light for the monitor off, nothing more.

Help?

Could be:

- Too many people on the Router at Once
- Your computer (my step dad had the same problem. Brand new computer too. By the way it WAS a laptop also.)
- Could be the operating system.

Thats all I could think of right now.

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
